Officials to discuss rule for using long putters
R&A chief executive Peter Dawson said discussions with the U.S. Golf Association about longer putters anchored to the body began before Els holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the claret jug at age 42.

my opinion is that they should let any players that want to use the Long Shafted putter use it and ones that don t , thats their preference, isn t it the same with any new golf club, golf ball, if you want to use it, if it helps your game, its your choice then

No it isn't the same. There are limits on driver lengths. There are limits on grooves. There are limits on golf balls. You can not use a training grip in play.There was actually a penalty for a gent kneeling on a towel to hit a golf ball to keep his pants clean. You can not use outside agencies to assist your swing and in this case your body becomes that outside agency when you wedge it into your belly or against your chest.

if they were going to do something, they should have done it years ago. It will only be more difficult now and how will all the wins with long putters go down in history? WOW, what a can of worms this will be

I agree with Jimbo. Cheating!!! You r suppose to use your arms to swing and not your chest or another body part. Should ban it!!!
