Is it True?

At our club today, there were some well heeled people talking about Augusta.
Some of the members have played there a few times, and the rumor was that Augusta National was going to try to right one of their longest wrongs by paying the estate or heirs of Dr. MacKenzie (the original architect). MAcKenzie designed what is considered one of best inland courses in the world and was never paid by the club. He died broke, and Augusta has never addressed this. It would be pretty cool if they found way to take care of this. Any of the golf writers who cruise through here, heard anything about this?

So, do I assume with no response that this rumor was just that?
Funny to watch the tournament all week listening to all the talk about MacKenzie's design, knowing they stiffed the guy

This would true. All true. That's not the only thing either.
Augusta, more specifically Clifford Roberts, who was a miserly sort of fellow, also was successfully sued by the irrigation pipe supplier for non-payment, and probably a host of others who were stiffed by the club at the outset of the Great Depression.
Sadly, MacKenzie died broke, and it was more then likely due to stress from this entire incident. MacKenzie's letters pleading for Roberts to send him money were largely ignored.
