Why do so many people hate Tiger Woods?

There are 57 comments on the MLive.com story from Feb 14, 2012, titled Why do so many people hate Tiger Woods?. In it, MLive.com reports that:

It could be the color of Tiger Woods' skin or that he has won too much; the amount of money and fame he has and that he cheated on his wife; and that, in America, some live to build a man up and then revel in his failures.

It takes more than being a good golfer to be an admirable man.

I think a big part of it is his pouting arrogant attitude. He is all smiles when winning but a very very poor sport when losing.

Lets see, he cusses and spits like a fool in front of our youth. He drops his club on most every bad shot. He is a dog off the course. He compliments no one. Etc,etc,etc....

tiger is an A--h---e plain and simple and always has been. His arrogance and general attitude had to be tolerated when he was on top but now that he has shown the world the kind of man he really always has been the party is over and it couldnt happen to a nicer guy. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS COLOR. If he never wins another tournament it will be fine with me.

Wait a second... I forgot we determine success on how he treat's his wife, if he spits and swears. His arrogance/attitude. DROPPING a club!!!!! You guys are correct but going the wrong direction. How about we get back to GOLF. People hate tiger woods BECAUSE NOBODY ON EARTH CAN DO WHAT HE DOES....

It takes energy to hate someone -- and Tiger's just not worth it. On the other hand, I haven't any respect for the guy if only because he's an alley cat -- you know, the kind that sniffs through the garbage, has next to no breeding, and is found everywhere.

Professional athletes are usually very emotional players, with a few exceptions(Fred Couples). Tiger is just more noticeable because he is always in the spotlight. He made golf much more exciting for those people who normally wouldn't watch it when he was #1 for over 600 weeks. Truth is, at the top of his game, nobody else can match him, not even Phil. If he was back to playing like he did in the early 2000's, everybody else would be playing for second place in most tournaments Tiger is in. Any professional athlete is all smiles when winning and disappointed when they lose, it's just part of it.

If you mean act arrogant, be a poor sport and set a lousy example, then you are right. If you mean play golf, might I remind you who is number one now and what he did to get there (beat Tiger by 2 strokes).

Jealousy I suppose.

All of the moral idiots who bemoan his adultery need to face facts. Most of these celebrities images are nothing more than a character made up by agents and publicists. Why? So they can sell. So if you feel hurt by Tiger "lying" to the public, you should instead thank him for opening your eyes to the fact that you were blind to real life. Tiger is a great role model for hard work and dedication...and leave it at that. We are the public and we don't need to know everything about everyone who entertains us. Sports are entertainment. They make so much money because they entertain a large audience and deserve it.

You may see arrogance and poor sportsmanship when what he is showing is intensity and confidence. He's trying to beat 150+ guys every week not finish in the top 25 and make a nice living. He's never stormed off the course without taking his hat off (which I think is a little much, now they all do that) and shaking hands. He's gives credit to the winner every week in interviews. All you see is the anger he has towards himself when he doesn't perform as he wishes and interpret that as poor sportsmanship. It's not. If he were interfering with other competitors in any way, then yes. But he is not.

As far as #1 now, Rory has a ton of talent and could definitely be the next great thing. Golf, however, isn't like tennis where #1 usually wins. If you win 10% of your entries in golf you are a star. Just because Rory beat him by 2 in the Honda doesn't mean much. It was great to not see Rory fold when the heat was on, and he did have chances to. Rory is definitely good for golf.

Hmmm....., he spit once on a green in Dubai. Keegan Bradley spit more in the last half hour of the Northern Trust than Tiger and Sergio spit in their careers. As far as not complimenting anyone.....when doesn't he compliment anyone he is asked about? I think you're pulling your info from your bottom. Do you actually watch golf or just jump on these boards to snivel a little?

He does drop his club on a lot of his extremely poor shots, not unlike some of the other players on tour but the camera is always on Tiger.

I used to enjoy watching Tiger and even took up for him when my friend put him down, but no more.
He IS arrogant and very frustrated that he lost his talent. I often wonder, does he claim injury when he plays badly OR does he play badly because of the injury. Either way, his prime in golf has passed.

I think golf fans hate the constant media coverage of Tiger Woods especially when he is not playing well. We are told golf would be in trouble without Tiger Woods. Whose fault is that? We rarely see other golfers when Tiger is golfing and we certainly do not see or learn enough about them to develop any kind familiarity with them. when the sports highlights come on, the same occurs. We see Tiger's round in detail and then aa few shots from the leaders. It was bad when Tiger was winning, it is ridiculous now. aResponsible gold media would reduce the numer of Tiger haters significantly.
