Oh stop it.

Our streets are run amok with all the Goecaching visitors already, Janet!!

I think its funny you have someone saying tourism only benefits big businesspeople and then you go and speak to and quote Patty Nitterhouse, LOL.

Pretty funny stuff.

Send Ms. Pollard back to promoting that sad example of a local heritage center - the one with few real displays and even fewer real artifacts or hitorical pieces.(You know, the one built and funded as a local historial center so the Chamber of Commerce could end-up with spiffy new offices. That one).

There is NO way tourism generates the kind of money Janet continues to claim. This article confirms that the figures Janet cites are simply made up estimates by her. I'd really like to see the PO further study this issue. I simply can't imagine we have tourism to the tune of 10s of millions dollars per year here. Most of our hotel guests are simply passing through the area, or they are here visiting family, attending a wedding, or something similiar -- I don't consider any of those type visits as "tourism" generated by the County tourism office.

"The Civil War doesn't have uniqueness," Pollard said.

Funny funny funny!!

There are many towns and cities that will differ with you on that one Janet. Perhaps you should contact them for some sage advice and professional help???

Either call them or go find yourself a clue.

I agree with the first 3 comments. The program is set up to aid businesses and no one else. Basically, it's being used for the downtown, main st. businesses. The Heritage center is not much more than a gift shop and plush offices for chamber and others. This money is being wasted imo.

And who cares how many days a week people spend in Hershey? Chambersburg will never be Hershey or Frederick. Face it.

Do they still have that sign as you're about to exit for Greencastle on I-81: "Home of James Buchanan's birthplace"? That hauled in TONS of business. Then, all the tourists had to do was turn around and drive to Lancaster, and they'd see the house in which he retired.

I agree with everything Bud Bennett said. She is not worth over a $1000.00 a week which I was told she is getting. You may also want to check her last name. I understand she just recently married a Chambersburg businessman. Public Opinion I feel you need to do some more investigating and what's with the 3 commissioners if they want to cut spending, there it is. That's a good start Eliminate her position. She is not needed.

Wow, there is alot of anger here.

I don't know that the Franklin County Visitors Council has totally found their way, but I like to know that there are people out there at least trying to promote our county.

Could things be done better? Probably. But as I understand it, this money doesn't come from local taxes, but rather a tax on the hotel nights that directly benefit from it.

You guys gotta give some things a chance before just tearing it apart. I don't know the background of Janet Pollard other than she worked at the Chamber. Maybe she's still figuring out this job? Maybe she's in over her head? Maybe she doesn't have the proper direction (I hear John Hart is about as dumb as Bob Thomas, so with those two managing her, what can we expect?)

I will say that I was at the town fest in Mercersburg and talked to a young black guy (I forget his name)who worked for the Tourism Agency, and this guy was impressive and seemed to really have his stuff together.

At any rate, I do think that the tourism council is needed, maybe it just needs to be shaken up a bit.

Forget the "Benjamins!" Let's promote the true unique character of a town that was the only town burned in the North during the civil war. Let's celebrate our heritage with the slogan:"So Cheap We Was Burnt!"

"Franklin County is still unique, beautiful and unspoiled," Nitterhouse said. "Sometimes when you travel you don't know if you're in Texas, Illinois or Florida. Franklin County has a quaint character and architecture."

Central Illinois and Central Pennsylvania smell pretty much the same - pig manure.

In general the Florida rednecks are older than the Texas rednecks. Also if you can drive east or west for more than a couple of hours, you're in Texas.

The Spanish speaking people in Texas are generally Mexican. In Florida they're Cuban.

Unspoiled??? The day they opened that concrete slab that runs diagonally through the county is the day this county was spoiled and soiled.

I do not understand the venom and vitriol! I must disagree with the strongly held, but unenlightened negative opinions expressed about Franklin County and its Tourism Bureau Director.
Ms. Pollard is a wonderful proponent of commerce and tourism in Franklin County. She and the fine folks of Franklin County were especially accommodating and hospitable to me and my band of Confederate raiders at the most recent celebration of the "Burning". I suspect the critics of Ms. Pollard were not among the thousands of spectators in the Square that night.
I intend to return again to recreate the infamous actions I took against your town and its inhabitants 149 years ago. Direct your animosity to me, the "Incendiary of Chambersburg" rather than a skillful and dedicated public servant just doing her job, quite capably I might add. As for me, I was just doing mine. As they say, "all is fair in love and war".
