Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a winner. This is exactly why the government is involved and trying to stop it, ban it, or regulate it. It's simply because they cannot make any money off of it. Now, if they can find a way to tax it - then they'll subsidize it with taxpayers' money, promote it, and probably even participate. When the government is involved... just follow the money.

Ban internet cafe's!!!! People have lost everything they own because of an addiction as big as cocaine. City leaders just want the revenue. They don't care about people. If people weren't gambling their money away they would have more to pay their taxes and keep their homes and feed their kids. Internet Cafe's have gone on too long already. The economy has suffered badly because of them, and the owners have preyedon poor people, getting rich while the poor get poorer.

You cannot be serious. I'll agree that people have lost everything due to addictions, but why do you think that if people didn't gamble they would pay more taxes? Hell, if that's the case I'm heading to a NC Cherokee casino today to lower my tax rate. Please tell me how internet cafes have damaged the economy in any way. These are wild claims that you cannot defend with facts.

By the way, I've never been in one of these places, and the only time I've ever gambled is with a slot machine on a cruise ship. So my position isn't one of defending the industry. It's defending personal private rights and stopping government intervention into our private lives.

It's My Money...you are in the same position I'm in. I too work at an Internet Cafe on weekends to supplement my income. What people don't realize is the fellowship that goes on. I've met some of the nicest people who come in to play. But the other side of this is who's business is it if I or anybody else wants to spend $10 or $20 for a couple of hours in front of a computer? Nobody is being harmed. If those people who really can't afford to play spends their money and doesn't win anything....is there a difference between that and playing the lottery and not winning? I've won FAR MORE $$ at the Internet Cafe than I ever hope to playing the lottery. Way back in the day, the money from the ABC stores was supposed to go for education....now we have the lottery going towards education....but teachers are being laid off, courses canceled and buildings not even being repaired. I could be wrong, but it don't sound like the government in charge of the money is any smarter than the "lowlife" that plays at the sweepstakes.

Politicians don't care if you lose your money...they just want you to lose it playing the lottery because that fattens their pockets.

I don't understand why people are so judgemental against people who enjoy playing at these establishments. I work for MY money and I should be able to spend MY money any way I see fit. For the comment about the junk cars with dead tags....I drive a 2010 Camaro sweetie :o) My friends that I play with don't either. We spend 10 buck and enjoy each others company for a couple of hours while playing a game of Keno. It's relaxing and its fun. The owners and the employees are great people. you should try it sometime.
As long as these "I know what's better for you than you do" democraps are in office.... expect more regulations and intrusion into our personal affairs.

I resent your comment about low life operators...I am an operator and I have a double major in Business Administration and own several other business'. What I dont understand is the state is running a legal gambling operation and thats ok.... but let any one else do it...it's illegal. You politicians are pathetic. If the lottery is so great where does all the money go? How many teachers are they going to terminate. Way to go the North Carolina Lottery. Lets see your income statement. The only people that make any money are the lottery thieves.
Let the people that make their money spend their money the way they see fit. They don't need big brother to tell them how to live!

i work for the little money i make and if i decide after paying my bills that i wopuld like to go and enjoy a game of keno or shamrock 7s then thats my decision. i would rather give my money to a local company to have fun then to those indians in cherokee that just sends all of our money over seas. open your eyes for god sakes. that is why the goverment have to keep making money because what we have here has been sent over seas.lol if u do it to one then do it to all. even the indians.there no better than us us citizens. leave us alone if it wasnt for being able to play the sweepstakes then i would be blowing my money on booze then maybe just maybe i could drive around drunk.
