must be nice to be able to keep employees checks who quit. it has now been 11 days and we still havent gotten our checks from chess and checkers, then they wonder why people dont stay, and the problem is they dont see that this illegal. they think they can treat employees how ever they want, and do what ever they want, well they cant, and this is why people leave, cant give a two weeks notice because, if they find out well down stairs is where ull be serving for the rest of the time u are there.

Whoever wrote that last comment, is absolutly an employee of Chess and Checkers. They know way to much to just be a customer. If your a disgruntaled employee just come out and say that. Don't try to fool us, because that isn't going to work. All i can say to everyone is come in and try the restaurant. Any place is going to have it's ups and downs. However, depending on the server and the night, this place is good. Try the crab cakes, they truly live up to their name. If you give it a try, Im sure you will really enjoy it. Stop listening to people who are only posting because they had a bad experience there. How about all the numbers of returning customers our bussiness draws in? Or the recomendation of both hotels next door to all their guests. Please come in! Try it, and see for yourself.
I have been to Chess and Checkers twice. I am more than willing to give a 2nd chance because I believe that everyone has an off night. The second time I was there, I was shown to my seat by a poser who was trying to look gangsta but just couldn't pull it off. He had no interest in the fact that I was there and paying for service and if he did, I didn't see it. I was very disappointed when I got cold food and asked 3 times to have a drink. I thought I was going into a restaurant I felt overdressed and underserved. When I had asked to speak to management, I was pointed to an extremely overweight gentleman (and I use that term loosely). I opted not to speak with him cause he looked like someone who slept out in the parking lot overnights. When I go into an establishment, I like to speak to a manager to let them know that I am satisfied or dissatisfied. Curb appeal is nice but when you go in and see the sobbingly staff it will change your opinion of this dive.

I'm surprised so many bad review. My wife and I love the place. I never really noticed poor service, but I DID notice how awesome the crab cakes are. Every time we go there, we order "cake & steak". A crab cake and filet mignon (sp?). Every time it's been perfection.

Never experienced cold food, never experienced bad food.

I found this site while trying to find the phone # for Chess n Checkers and disagree.
I've eaten lunch there twice and both meals were terrific. The french fries are the best in the Valley. Loved the crab cake. Please give this place a try!1

this place is amazing. The server we had was wonderful. Bubbley personality and she talked to us for quite sometime. Although she said she has been there for years you could tell even the other servers were just as well liked in the place. I love the crab cakes and the french fries!

I made the mistake of momentarily pulling into the lot of Chess 'n' Checkers this morning after getting my car washed down the road at Rudy's. Being that it was about 9:45 am (a good hour before opening time), and also being that it was pretty cold outside, I pulled behind the restaurant to quickly wipe down my car. I pulled around to the back, out of sight from the Airport Road traffic, left my car running, and quickly stared wiping off the excess water so my doors wouldn't freeze shut later. Within 5 minutes, a man came out and cursed and screamed at me for daring to do what I was doing. He used profanity while verbally assaulting me about not using the lot as a "car wash" and even though I tossed my towel into the trunk right away and started on my way to a new lot, he continued to curse at me and call me names I will not publish. I don't know how the food is these days, being as the last time I dined there it was still C.L. Checkers, but I can say this- whoever that was that greeted me in the lot was rude, and completely out of line for treating me like they did.- particularly in light of the fact that I did not give him a hard time and respectfully left as soon as I was asked to. I can only hope it was not the owner because I'd be fearful to see what treatment a patron would receive for sending back food that was not done to their liking. I will never patronize this establishment again.

I feel for the last poster but at least he didn't pay to get the same sort of abuse. It cost me $70 to get the same treatment.
I can't believe that given the state of today's economy that a restaurant manager and owner wouldn't want to do their best to keep a customer happy. However, that certainly isn't the case at Chess & Checkers. I recently had a meal with my family in which I bit into a piece of Tilapia only to find a metal shaving of some sort. This was at least an inch long (maybe from a brillo pad or shaving from a can that had been opened).
I asked to speak to the manager who in turn came to our table and just stood there. He didn't apologize or even acknowledge he knew what the problem was. I had to ask him if he knew why he was standing there at my table just looking at me. He said he did, still not apologizing, and then said he'd credit our bill for my entree. He asked if there were other problems. I told him we'd been sitting there waiting for our meal for over an hour and my wife’s meal (which visibly hadn’t been touched) was cold from the time it was served to us and very dry.
The waitress returned with our adjusted bill and I felt I had to let the owner know about the way his manager had handled the situation. The owner became quickly agitated and began raising his voice with me (I was really thrown but later our waitress told us the manager was the owner’s son). He yelled at me that they had done all that they could. My question in response to this was “Did they really do all they could?” They removed my meal but I had told them how poor the rest of the food had been. From other experiences in the past this guy certainly could have done more and maybe even had us return someday if they handled the situation better. Even a simple apology and some assurance that this wouldn’t happen again would have been good (I got nothing of the sort from the owner).
If you eat here I hope you have better luck and don’t find yourself making an ER visit after your meal.

this place is wonderful. we've been having our company meeting there once a month and we are extremly happy with the people and food. Joan the owner is so great to us. Her energy is so uplifting and positive towards us. The food is amazing, especially this cajun grilled steak and chicken combo! Thanks to all those who work at Chess and Checkers. And a special thanks to the owner Joan. We will continue to do business with them and look forward to planning more events in the future!

This place had really done a complete turn around. I was there about a year ago and the bartender was so rude I swore to never go back. However, my girls night out was chosen by a friend and I had no choice but to go. I was so impressed by this place this time. A hostess waited by the door as if she was anticipating our arrival. The waiter came over and flirted with us a little and was so friendly and curtious. We had nachos at half price which were so yummy! The infamous crab cakes were so wonderful. And a brownie sundae to top it off! The same hostess came over about mid way and asked us how we were doing. Even talked to us for about five minutes which made you feel like family. I would recommend this place to anyone! They have really fixed the needed areas! great job!

Terrible place to eat!! Nachos sucked, forgot things we ordered. Had to get up and find a waitress for silverware to start eating my microwaved filet... Yes microwaved! They didn't have a few things we ordered. Nice looking place but now I know why it was empty.... Never go there!!
