There is a reason grocery shopping is called a chore. First you put the items in the cart, then you lug them out to be scanned by either the cashier or a self-checkout, then you stuff them in bags and put them in the cart again.

scanning and bagging your own grocery purchace, dosn't save you a penny. You pay the full or sale price, doing their work, which you have been charged and pay for to boot. That is why they push you to self scan and bag your own items. Either demand a 2-3% discount, for doing their work, or let them do it! Actualy stores that offer the self scanning, charge more per item overall, to pay for the nessary equipment and devices, to catch the obvious cheaters.
