Yeah, the Navy could use a few of these.Considering the 700 million dollar price tag;a few is all they are going to get.I would also suggest having a large number of much cheaper small frigates armed with 30 mm cannon,.50 cal.,antiaircraft missles and a few small anti-ship missles.A platform for either a helicopter or drones would be useful. Not every opponent is a superpower.Do you really need a stealth ship to do routine patrols and deal with pirates?

I was doing a project on the Indepence's sister ship, the USS Freedom LCS-1, in March of '09. With a crew of 50 and what that ship can do, she's worth the price tag. If you go to youtube.com and type in USS FREEDOM LCS-1 SPEED TRIALS you'll see her in action. Watch her over take a power boat around the 30 second mark.
You nay-sayers haven't a clue.

I am all for having high tech, high capability, stealth ships.I merely point out that even if the Navy has plans for the Starship Enterprise;if you can't afford to build it,you don't get to drive it.Sometimes, all you need to haul hay is an old pickup truck. If you need to kill Somali pirates, all you need is a couple of frigates, and a few old rustbucket appearing Q-ships.Sucker 'em in,sink 'em,and shut up.No trials,no publicity,no problem.

What FFs/FFGs go over 50 Knots? I doubt the LCS ships were built to 'kill some pirates'. Typical know nothing, loud mouth, ignorant civilian talking outta your äss.

I have no problems with the LCS ships top speed;although i do think that their range is a little on the short side.I have a somewhat bigger problem with gee whiz, multipurpose, gonna do everythang platforms.Remember the Air Force's F-111? I also, considering the price tag, will guarantee that the Navy will not get the number of Littoral combat ships that they want. That's why i think that there is a place for cheap,simple,non-steath ships to deal with the frequent, messy, low tech threats.A little bit of money should also be spent on totally non-sexy ships like oilers. That way you don't put a billion dollar ship, like the USS Cole,in a vulnerable situation.--------Besides,from my know nothing, loud mouth,exArmy, civilian perspective;it just looks bad when you let a bunch of rag heads in little, bitty boats blow a 20 foot hole in your state of the art, spiffy, new warship.

If the crew DID fire on the rag heads on that boat and they turned out to be innocent people, YOU PEOPLE would be screaming for the sailors' heads to have them court martialed because they used excessive force and killed innocent civilians. So typical of you know nothing numbnuts, CQ standing ground pounders. You and those morons who wanted the SEALS court martialed are all alike. Great Monday Morning Quarterbacks who know SQUAT about the game. As for putting the Cole in a "vulnerable position", our ships have been in 'safe harbors' before expecting nothing to happen. That's not how our world is. Those rag heads you so admire will do ANYTHING to take an American life...even YOURS sitting there on your fat äss thinking you're safe when you go out to the mall. NYC has been shown that you're not safe ANY PLACE.

I don't have a problem with a seal clocking a terrorist.I merely pointed out that if the Navy had kept a few oilers;they wouldn't have had to pull a billion dollar ship to the curb to gas up.Aden was not a safe harbor.Showing the flag,by putting troops and expensive ships in harms way is an abuse of troops and a waste of resources.P.S. I don't expect safety at the mall. That's why i have a carry permit.
