I bet everybody reading this column can remember at least one book from their childhood or young adulthood that touched them in an extraordinary way.

Oh yes, I was in grammer school (am pushing eighty) and for homework we all had to to read a book and I picked the book with the title "White Fire" just because of the title. I don't remember the author but after reading this book I was hooked. It was about a priest's life among the Lepers of Molokai. His name was Father Damien.
I only read non-fiction and have always enjoyed reading about the authors also.
