...all well and good; however instead of a marketing tool use this technology for public safety. Everything is always directed to consumerism. The logic here dictates that it should be used for public safety first. Worry about Starbucks later.

I would regard either receiving an unsolicited ad from my carrier or the carrier selling my information to be a violation of the service agreement and I would immediately cancel the contract. I would switch to whatever carrier would promise not to do these things.
