Once again this bill will fall short. Remove texting as well as the walki-talki feature on a phone. You still see the drivers using the Nextels shifting from lane to lane as they fumble with there phones. Mainly truck drivers they have this killing machine and are not paying attention to the road while using there Nextels.

Right on, go ahead and ban the texting, state assembly. I am deaf myself and from my experience, in the past, I sent a text message using my Sidekick and it was not safer. I felt very uncomfortable to send a text message while I was driving so I put my Sidekick away and kept driving. Best advice is that do not answer any cell phone including text messaging while you are driving until you finish driving or operating a car so that way you would not get into car accident that would be caused by cell phone use.

No doubt! Texting while driving is crazy, but some people still do it.

Again, another example of a legislature unable to pass a budget on time, but yet has the time to consider goofy bills such as this, including the baloon bill by Senator Jack Scott (D-Pasadena). Common sense dictates that it is unsafe to text while driving; any moron should be able to figure that out!

Am I cluless here ? don't you have to use a cell phone to text message? And don't we already have a new law that went into effect on July 1st about cell phones and driving at the same time?

So what is it, you don't have to actually have the phone to your ear while driving ? to be in violation now. Both hands on the wheel at all times will be in the not to distant future. No driving and drinking a beverage or picking your nose or scratching your head or adjusting the rear-view mirror. Both hands on the wheel 10 & 2 at all times while the vehicle is in motion. Or you get a ticket?. We're getting there!

Oh my god,why put another law when they don't even enforce this one.I have seen cops(pasadena)using their cell phones while driving as well as a few firemen while driving! The people who I've seen have been OVER 30. They should try enforcing the car/booster seat law and speed limit law.

I too have seen police officers using personal cell phones while driving in marked police vehicles, this should be and is grounds for a personel action. But, texting and driving, talking while driving, putting on make-up while driving, reading while driving, watching TV while driving, taking orders over the phone while driving in the fast lane on the 210 at 50 mph are all stupid acts. Adding a law covering the loophole of texting is a good thing.

Most people have now used the excuse of the new cell phone law to give up their perpetual phone sex contracts, and stopped taliking while driving. Other idiots use the "hands free" loophole to still drive like morons, not paying attention. Now start enforcing the law we have on the other 10% of idiots who still talk on a cell phone and drive!

In our area, a person just lost their life in a horrid traffic accident while texting. Wasn't paying attention and smashed into a huge (trash) truck. Is texting worth a fatality?

A little off topic but why is it that Police Officers still get to use cell phones while driving? Yesterday I saw one police officer on his cell and today I have already seen two officers on their cell phones while driving. What kind of example is this setting? If cell phones are unsafe to be used while driving they should be unsafe to be used by ALL DRIVERS.
