Not so, Cuba has had an extensive land line phone system since Edision and Bell. This is a luxury.

If you look at a lot of developing countries (of course Cuba has long been a non-developing country) they have found its now a lot cheaper to build a telephone infrastructure around cell phones than land lines. I expect thats the way Cuba will choose to go.

Of course... The Cuban American population that screams about how little people earn in Cuba. The exact same population that works for extremely low wages and drives down the price of labor for the ordinary worker.
Who would advocate this? The Cubans that came over during the big boat lift that have started up companies on the blood of their corrupted families that they smuggled out of Cuba.... They were the corrupt and living in mansions while the regular population worked in poverty.
Poverty got mad and rebelled. Rich people bailed out and ran. Came to the U.S. and do the same thing over again.
Look at the politicians in Miami, and every suburb around it. Corruption throughout. Big contracts to other Cuban American companies that get big bucks for substandard work... If it even gets finished.
I don't mind immigrants, and I do believe that a legal immigration policy is good for America. But these SO CALLED political asylum seekers have done the majority of the destruction of South Florida.
By the way, they are ripping off their own people the worst.
I want the embargo lifted so MAYBE some of them will leave... Oh that's right, they won't leave because corrupt politicians and substandard pay for employees is OK to do in the US and you won't be killed for ripping people off like they would be in Cuba.
When I went to Cuba, the people were amazing. Warm and wonderful people. A beautiful country. What the %&^* happened in 90 miles. They come here and they are A-HOLES.
Did you know that as part of the Cuba Democracy Act any Cuban that "lost" property in Cuba could claim it as a deduction against future US income taxes??? In other words if you claimed (who knows for sure)to have lost a 10 million dollar farm to Fidel then you probably have never had to pay one penny in taxes to the US!!!

And all this time I thought the cuban people had no money for milk and bread, but apparently I was mistaken.

You missed his point..and you blamed America for the departure of decency. I am sure if more were like you then the sentiment towards cuban americans would not be so negative.
No I clearly understood what he did try to say about cubans in Miami. I did not blame America..any country has people like I mentioned before. BUT Why to blame the cubans imigration as the cause???noway!!

It is so sad how mean people can be to others. Someday in our near future the Mexican and Canadian Borders are going to be removed, it is the works for 2010. I hope you are ready. You are going to be forced to get along with others whether you want to or not, unless someone puts a stop to it.

BAN NEW CELL TAXES!
John Mc Cain understands that the same people that would tax e-mail will
tax every message - even 911 calls .John Mc Cain will prohibit new cellular
telephone taxes .John Mc Cain has been a leader in keeping the internet free
of taxes. As president ,he will seek a permanent ban on taxes that threatens this engine of economic growth and prosperity .

Vote Mv Cain 2008.

Please do not be so naive to think that it makes a difference who is in office. Republican or Democrat either one doesn't make a difference they do not stand united. What we consider to be in our best interest - neither side seems to concern themselves enough to keep their promises after in office.

There are more cell phones in use in Haiti than in Cuba, it is not a luxury there, just a comodity like all over the world!
As far as land lines in Cuba, 3.8 per 100 in 1957 (UN stats) vs 4.7 50 years later (Cuban Goverment Stats!) is this progress?
From 2nd in Latin America in 1957 to the bottom of the barrel in 50 years!

Arriva Fidel, Arriva Raul, may you reach the stone age in a few more years!

i don't know where the hatred and vitriol comes from but you should seek help . if you were violated as a child or perhaps your parents didn't love you you must learn to forgive and come to terms with your humanity.good luck and God bless you.

I JUST READ THAT ALTHOUGHT CHILE POPULATION IS COMPOSED OF 95% OF INDIAN MESTIZOS. THERE IS A POPULATION OF ABOUT 25,OOO BLACKS!WON'T IT BE WEIRD IF ONE OF THEM COULD BE POSTING AT THIS FORUM?WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT...MY CHILD?

The bulk of the Chilean population features a considerably homogenous mestizo quality[5], the product of miscegenation between colonial Spanish immigrants (mainly soldiers) and Amerindian females.[6] Chile's ethnic structure can be classified as white-Mestizo 95%, Amerindian 3%, other 2%. Whites are mostly Spanish in origin (mainly Castilians, Andalusians and Basques), and to a lesser degree from Chile's various waves of immigrants (Italians, Germans, Israelis, Croatians, Arabs, etc.). Foreigners have always been scarce in Chile, totalling 600 in the whole colonial period. At the 1960 census they numbered 105,000 (55% being Spanish, German, or Italians[citation needed], in that order). Besides being small in number, they mixed quickly with the locals. The black population was always scant, reaching a high of 25,000 "

Is it just me, or does it seem like the people in Cuba are taking small steps toward a democracy? Seem like university students are also rebelling. Students in the past in many countries have made huge differences in their governments!
