Deep sea Web camera eyes climate change

TheA 502-pound "Eye-in-the-Sea" video camera sits on the floor of the Pacific Ocean some 22 miles off the California coast.
Is it me or does somebody getting a big grant of $ to put a camera on the bottom of the sea to look for changes in area above the sea sound like a big waste of money...?
I hope a whale CR@Ps on it...
