I'm amazed this company has stayed in business for as long as it has. Their products are expensive and for what they produce, the company seems excessively large. Although they are a good employer in Santa Cruz, the executives must have been living in fantasy land as we've seen in many other corporations now looking for bailouts.

I'm not surprised they are having trouble either. I worked there briefly several years ago and the amount of corporate "waste" was outlandish. When times were great, instead of saving for rainy day, they spent money like it grew on trees. There were employee parties that included banquets at Chaminade and we chartered the Chardonnay during the week and cruised the Monterey Bay all day. There were other "events" but you get the point. It was all about spend, spend, spend.

I'm sure the 18% getting the boot are not the high paid execs, who are getting "pay cuts" so we're told
Thank the Mayor

Plantronics having history in selling corporate acquisitions for a fraction of what was paid for - while Corporate executives tell investment prospects that such decisions "isn't about the money" - doesn't do a whole lot to retain the confidence necessary to attract funding or talent.

But that's Santa Cruz. An area region desperately overvalued, and not self sustaining.

Local region economy depends primarily on the State Agency Union Ambition, supported by Sacramento, and financed from the taxpayers in Southern California.

Maybe bad decisions are result of the rabbit infestation known to permeate the landscape - where corporate talent can't think straight; and for which the Santa Cruz climate amounts to be a land of 'magicianry'.
