"Considering that the average price of a solar installation fell dramatically last year to $4.72 per watt, a median 5KW installation will cost about $23,600 (that varies wildly between states and regions). Rebates included, you could whittle that down to $7,000 -$15,000, a reasonable sum for many homeowners. That's before we factor in energy savings."

Is that watt as in the price of a solar PV panel divided by its price? Is this the price of the panel and installation? Buying in panel quantities one can get solar PV panels for $1.50 to $0.90 a watt. www.bluepacificsolar.com . Racking system, wiring and balance of system components,(BOS) plus labor will make up the rest of the system cost.

You got some REAL numbers on that boy? Is all this just B.S. draining from between your ears? You've had first hand experience with solar, no? What's the matter boy, work in a coal mine and it's about to close? Yeah, scary isn't it? Change is coming and if somehow your uninformed B.S. could just stop it. Then one day you'll realize, you're going to have to take some responsibility for your energy usage.

Sticks and stones, sugar

And the gas pump stick(er) punishment has been pretty hard to bear lately.

As to solar - I have nothing against it, but I know it's not yet there economically - otherwise it would be attacked vigorously: thalliums, germaniums, silicosis! Oh my!

Yeah, another lie. No real numbers just kids rhymes. How in the hell do you suppose a new technology "gets there economically"? Not by uninformed thumb sitters like yourself and your twin P.P. Try a little solar you might like it. www.dsireusa.org ; www.bluepacificsolar.com

NO, why is it so difficult for YOU to comprehend? Perhaps it's you have NO knowledge or experience with solar, but what your Utility masters tell you is true? www.dsireusa.org

Luddite, you've exposed yourself and the Emperor has no clothes. There are many Solar PV manufacturers that have been around for decades. Sharp, Schott, Kyocera, Sanyo, Panasonic and others have been around for decades making solar PV products. Some of the original panels from the 1970's made by ARCO are still in use. Solar PV is a legacy product. One you buy once in a lifetime, unless like some folks, who like to buy a new car every few years to get the latest, greatest, technology. Then you create a used solar PV market. Making solar PV more affordable to the "common man".

And in the same time, a homnebuilding boom was underway in US.

How many homebuilders used them to construct energy-efficient homes?

Solar electricity is a niche product. If you're in that niche, good. If not, don't waste your money.

What "niche" did you pull that opinion out of? Solar PV prices have dropped since 2010-11. There was no "home building boom" then. People are tired of the electric utility asking for rate increases from the PUC. They just want off of the merry-go-round. In 43 States of the Union there are net metering laws that allow them to do just that.
