Three calls for rescue should warrant the receipt of a bill for services rendered. These inconsiderate people not only put themselves in danger, but also put rescue crews in jeopardy.

I agree with Marc. On the other hand as dumb as it sounds it is job security. I am a fire fighter. We have a saying "without dumb people we wouldn't have a job". I can't tell you how many times we go on that 3 a.m. call to find out the patient just doesn't feel good. when asked when the onset of symptoms began, you wouldn't believe how many times they say "three days ago".

calls for non life threatening situations should have a charge.

This government has taught people that the government is your nanny so why would people not expect to be pulled out of the messes they get themselves into. The government pulls worthless b&%@+&ds out of "poverty" every day. Tell me something new.

as someone who got raised hiking, camping and fishing in remote locations,i was taught since day one to pack survival needs.for someone to call for help on these beacons because of minor discomforts should be charged with making a false alarm call.if you are unable to go into an area without a beacon you really aren't ready to go there with one.

Exactly. No matter how bad you screw up, how poor of decisions you make in life it is the government's responsibility to save you from your self. There is a little theroy called "natural selection" at work here. We are dumbing down the planet by allow these types to reproduce.

I can see a new series for Animal Planet: "Yuppies behaving badly in the wild". I say beat 'em to death with their locator beacons.

Actually, that would be a funny show--"yuppie 911!"

but even before cell phones and satellite devices, I would see people out hiking in the high Sierras (where it regularly snows in August) completely unprepared for a change in weather, unprepared even to find clean water to drink--they didn't do their homeowork before setting out.

Now that people are in general more interested in experiencing our beautiful outdoors, and outdoor sports (which is a good thing), the numbers of unprepared people are bound to increase. They should be required to get a permit (state of CA used to require them!), and need to prove that they are competent to get the permit, then be charged for the nuisance rescue calls.

Too many people think life is a video game...forgetting that in the wild "game over" means you get very dead. We should let Mr. Darwin's law work, and help improve the gene pool.

You wait...it's not so far-fetched for this to actually happen. It will probably be proposed by the idiots who cried wolf with the salty water. Schmucks.

I agree that it started with cell phones. People get a flat tire or a dead battery on their cars, and instead of getting out the spare or the jumper cables, they reach for the phone.

it probably will happen, besides it would be better than half the reality shows they make now.make it even more interesting, let viewers vote whether they get rescued or just supplies airdropped in.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Leo

There's an erratic quality to the day, thanks to the Full Moon in emotional Cancer, combined with a lunar eclipse. Loved ones are likely to behave in ways you hadn't counted on. The only way to cope with this is to be as flexible as possible. Someone might change an arrangement at the eleventh hour so you have to think on your feet, or others may be determined to do their own thing even though it doesn't suit you. Get any arguments out of the way quickly so you can enjoy your New Year's Eve celebrations with a glad heart.
