A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)blatantly states that taking Fosamax could injure you by making your bones brittle and more prone to fractures. In fact, numerous lawsuits have already been filed by those severely affected by the drug. More information is seen here http://fosamaxfemurfracturelawsuit.com

My MD recommended I have Prolia injections because she felt I was at risk of side effects from the other injections for osteoporosis. My health insurance company (one of the big ones) initially - for months - refused to pay for Prolia unless I tried the other injections first and had bad side effects from them FIRST. Because Prolia is (apparently) slightly more expensive as well as being safer. After months of arguing and many well-documented phone calls, I threatened them with a law suit. And, miraculously, they approved Prolia.

This is standard policy for the big insurance companies. They tell their reps to deny everything. They expect most people will meekly go away. Then they only approve things for those, like me, who threaten to sue. It's how they keep their profit margin huge. They collect huge premiums from us and deny coverage as often as possible. All the while their ads proclaim how they care so much about their customers/patients and want to do everything possible to keep them healthy. Give me a break!

Moral of the story - insist on obtaining the health care you and your MD agree you need - especially since you're paying huge $$$'s in annual premiums for it with these big insurance companies!

Community outreach is a great way for people to learn more about osteoporosis and its risks. They can also learn how to avoid those risks and better care for their bones by following the advice available on these programs. http://fosamaxlawsuit12.blinkweb.com
