The chances of Earth being the only planet with life is zero..all you bible thumpers out there.. we aint' so special, adam / eve not "gods special creation".. etc... no ghost stories, please. The universe is filled with life... probably most is doing much better than we are...

Good thinking there. I love when the holy rollers and bible thumping believers get little smoke coming out of their ears.

This isn't about religion - it's about science and the discovery of other planets. Just because a planet is "Earth-like" doesn't mean it has life on it. Venus is Earth-like, at least in size and surface gravity, but almost certainly doesn't have life (certainly not life as we know it). Mars is sorta Earth-like, at least in terms of having a slight atmosphere and water, but probably doesn't have life. I'm as certain as I can be without having discovered life elsewhere that there is life elsewhere in the Universe and almost certainly intelligent life in the Universe (regardless of what you think about the intelligence of life on Earth).

It's amazing to think about how life evolved on Earth and the implications of that for other life elsewhere.

There's got to be life out there. Unless somebody invents a super-light speed propulsion device we'll never know.

Every time we send something into space something organic from earth goes with it. Our ships, shuttles, probes and satellites are not sterilized before we send them, so there is no doubt WE have sent life (at least microbial life) into the universe. You could say we are seeding the universe. The real question is if our planet or others were seeded this way, or if life evolved on its own here or in other places.

Oh sure, 30% of stars have "super-earths". But do they have super-politicians like Al Gore and Obama? If not, let's send them ours.

Unless I'm mistaken, the planet in the illustration is none other than...

You must be mistaken. Krypton was destroyed before the 1930's when Superman made his first appearance. I want a red kryptonite bracelet.

My cousin Clark got drunk one day and told me he was from Krypton. Can you imagine? A four eyed klutz coming from another planet. You should see the way he stares at the girls with the big hooters! You'd almost think he could see right through them!

I would rephrase that, and state the chances of a planet existing with the same conditions to support life as we know it are infinitely remote. The permeations to get where we are truly mind boggling. Nice sentiments though.

This is so retarded!!!

One of the properties of earth that allowed life to evolve is its mass. If earth had too much mass, gravity would be too little, and if it had too much mass, then gravity would be too much. We would be pancake people.

I am sorry to hear that theses scientists cant even understand basic physics...

you must be thinking of another planet with a waffle house on it...
not what they are saying...
life forms dont have to be human like...
organisms have been found on mars already...thats why they went back so quickly..
