Looking for more information about my father's time spent in La Rochelle. His DD214 says that he was with the 81st Trans Co (Boat) between spring of 1956 until Jan of 1958. I have hundreds of slides that I have yet to get transferred to digital form, but will post those when I have. His name was Darrell Olson and he was a clerk, and also played football? Anyone remember football being played over there between companies or battalions?

Hi, Dean! There is a Facebook group where you might get some answers to your questions about your dad's service. I know each group member would love to see your slides!! Please join us (if you're not a member already).

If the link doesn't work, search in Facebook for "La Rochelle U.S. Army."

Hope to see you there!

Dear Ken,
I looked at Bordeaux on the map. Unfortunately, I don't think that was the same camp. I remember the camp I attended was on the ocean and we were not far from a lighthouse that we walked to then to the top. Thanks for trying. I'll keep searching.
Hi Tam,
I think it was at Camp Cazaux, near Biscarosse Plage, France. My dad was stationed at Camp des Loges (St Germaine, near Paris) from 1958-late 1960. My sister, brother & I attended AYA camp in 1960 & I think it was in Biscarrosse. I have such fond memories of the experience!

Hello, I was born in Aufredi Hospital in La Rochelle, France in 1955. My father was stationed at Aufredi Caserne from 1954 -19 is 86 years old and has just started telling me interesting facts about his (our) time there. I know we lived along the beach at Chatelaillon. I don't know much about La Rochelle, but heard that the army base and hospital no longer exist. He asked me if I could find out if there are others out there that were stationed there during the mid 50s.

Mike, I was also stationed at Croix from 1956 to 1958. I had an accident on base one day, cut the tip of my left forefinger off, and was driven to the hospital in La Rochelle by one of the ambulance drivers. Maybe it was you???? Do you remember an driver by the name of Dan Wiles? He was mostly at the hospital in La Rochelle. My memory isn't very good these days but I do remember my time in France.
My bad, I was at Croix Chapeau 1955-56. Left there in January 1956. I was with the 555 Ambulance co., all that time. Hope all is good with you. If you recall any names, I would like to know of them.

I was stationed in the depot at Croix Chapeau '59-'60. There seems to be no one posting about those times. My kids laughingly tell me that people my age don't play on the computer much.I had three contacts from that time... two have died. At one time, I also managed the theater on Croix Chapeau.
