I arrived in LaRochelle August 1963. I was living at Laleu, assigned to the 11th Trans. I worked at ECP-1243 in Jeumont. I rented an apartment from retired Army Sergeant Poulos in Chatelaillon. I also worked at Croix Chapeau, Bordeaux, Soulac, Rochefort and Hennebont. My first child was born at the U.S. Army Hospital in Chinon in 1965. Does anyone remember Sergeant Filion? He was my boss most of my three years in France. Joe died 01 Nov 1995. I have been back to France three times to visit, and would very much like to hear from old friends there.

Merci Beaucoup, about the book of American Military in LaRochelle. Wonder if it's available in English? Although I still speak some French, trying to read a book in French would not be possible. If I know the title of the book and the Author's name, I can see if it's available here in the USA. I wrote my biography for my children, and there is a chapter about France in it. For some reason I always felt Deja Vu while in France. Like reincarnation or some such thing. Please visit my web page at: http://home.bellsouth.net/p/pwp-k4sfc There are many photos there.

Please know that LaRochelle is near and dear to my heart. I loved France and will always feel a deep connection there. Many weekends were spent walking the port area and the park. I used to go to a bar in LaPalice called "Jimmy's". He was from Denmark. It was walking distance from where I worked in Jeumont.(ECP-1243) I NEVER miss watching the "Tour de France" bicycle race every July on Television.

I was stationed at Jeumont in the 77th Trans Company in 63. Wish I had taken some pictures. Stayed in the Stop Hotelwhen my wife got there.

If any one has any old or new pictures of lapalice and Jeumont Caserne area, I would love a scaned copy for a web page about the area I am working on. I was in the 77th Transportation Company in 1963 there, and did not get any pictures.

I have photos as per your request. Was there at Laleu in the 11th Trans. I worked at Jeumont in the ECP-1243. Aug '63 until we closed it down, then I moved to Croix Chapeau.

I received the one picture of Jeumont now Larry. Any others you have, old or new are welcome. I guess we were there at the same time. I a mechanic in the 77th Trans, a tractor and trailer unit. I lived in the barracks on Jeumont, and our motor pool was on another compound towards the piers from what I remember. I got there in late June 63, and my wife arrived around September. When she got there, we lived in the Stop Hotel till around November when we all loaded up, and headed to Germany. The 77th was part of the 106th Trans Bn, located in Croix Chapeau. The 106th ended up in Bremerhaven and 77th in Kassel Germany.

I can just remember bits and pieces, since I was only there for a few months.

Any pictures of Jeumont, in side, or from the road would be nice. Any around the strip in front also.

I want to make a page like the Camp Stanley one, but smaller since we were not at Jeumont as long.

Anyone else out there with any pictures of Jeumont Kaserne,(Camp Jeumont)?

Any pictures of this area before 1980 would be great.

[img]http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb /jeumont%20sat%202008.jpg

The road in front, the fence, the entrance gates, inside any place, any pictures would be great.

I am also trying to find the history of this area. Was it built during the time of the construction of the Submarine Bunkers, or was it some sort of a military camp before, and modified during WW 2?

Was it used for any thing after 1964?

My father was stationed at La Rochelle (Aufredi Caserne) and lived in the barracks at Laleu 1953-1954, and remains in touch with several La Rochelle buddies. We will be glad to share photos and other info with you.

I never heard of an Army hospital at LaRochelle. I was there 1963-66. There was an Army hospital nearby at Croix Chapeau. It was the 28th General Hospital. About 20 miles from LaRochelle. Hope that helps you get on the trail.

It was the 28th General Hospital and it was South East of LaRochelle on Route D939.
