The USA had a totall of 102 Meadals in the 2004 Olympics. That is more than any other Country. Also, we are fast becoming a power house in Soccer.
It's called football all over the globe. Besides, if Europe was a country they'd have outscored the USA in medal count by four fold I believe (keep in mind, Europe has a population comparable to the USA) whereas China is fast on rise too. No doubt the US is a superpower in the Olympics, but even then there is regression.

At one point I thought the USA was unbeatable at basketball, in fact, American 'exchange' players here (in Jordan playing for various clubs) formed up a composite team & triumphed over our national team without even trying! Yet in the last few years, we've been getting the better of them, & worldwide, the US basketball team isn't the 'dream-team' it once was.
F1 and Nascar cannot be compared. Both take skill but the cars are very different. F1 is higly tecnical and nascar is a stock car. Stock cars will never evolve into machines like F1 cars because they are designed and meant to be raced like street cars.
I don't see what 'skill' a NASCAR needs, it's boring to watch those hyped up 'stock cars'(or whatever they really are) going in ovals just like IRL cars. They come & go lack a pack of wolves & one doesn't feel the intensity or competition. It's more like a 'race for fun' than a serious competition.

Lets get something straight. F1 is a european sport eventhough it is being run in a few other countries. However, F1 drivers always cannot wait to get back to europe to do their racing, but call themselves 'World Champions'. Races in countries outside europe are hyped but quickly lose stean 2 days after the race, then nobody talks about it. Although, many people would like to keep in touch with F1, the fraternity seems to shun fans. In Sepang they came were around for about 3 days tops then packed up quickly and left, and they expect you to pay a few hundred bucks to watch them. F1 is a european flavoured and eurocentric sport which is the racism that F1 should be worried about.

If Montoya was from UK he would be spared half the critism he faces. At least he had the gus to get out if he could not be in a car which could not win racers who hang in there when there are clearly better racers outside F1 who purportedly claim to have the cream of drivers.

Both Juan Pablo Montoya and Michael Schumacher are great drivers and should respect each other in the same way that they would want to be respected.

The thing is very simple. Juan Pablo Montoya has been always a superior driver than Michael Schumacher and I am not talking only about F1 or Nascar racing, I am talking about Juan Pablo Montoya could beat easily Michael Schumacher on any type of racing, because ability, preparation, experience, talent, personality, diverse background and something Michael will never have, guts. Put them on exactly same machines, with same qualified engineering team and Montoya will beat Schumacher permanently.
The only reason Montoya never beats Schumacher permanently, was because the vehicles. That is fact looking at the drivers leaving Williams first and now Mclaren, where Montoya struggled to win.
On the other hand, Ferrari had their best years when Montoya moves to F1. Different history would be if Schumacher were running with a team other than Ferrari. That’s why Schumacher now needs to make unneeded and disrespectful comments about Montoya, Nascar and the USA nation’s people. If he don’t have the guts that Montoya have been demonstrating all these years, at the very least don’t insult the only person who is better than him, another sport and another’s country people.
I like Montoya, But while you're comparing him to Schumaker, try to remember that he didn't dominate his team mate in the same car

Huh, beaten by Ralf Schumacher. Alberto wrote a lot but apparently without one simple fact in it.
