What a shame that drivers need to "dumb down" their skills and their speed just to make more money and be more famous.

True, jeff gordon said it best, its all about the money & the marketing. Champ car looks like they are starting to get off there feet but if all there stars are bolting for cash... who knows. Champ Car will never be as big as it was without the indy 500. At least you know Marco will never sell out(...hopefully)

Jeff Gordon hit it right on the head, it's about the money.

But don't think for a minute that F1's about to become a NASCAR feeder series. Montoya wore out his welcome, having failed to win the championship predicted for him. And Villeneuve hasn't been the contender in F1 for years.

Certainly Champ Car and IRL are the biggest losers when the likes of Allmendinger and Hornish cast their eyes on NASCAR. I don't blame Hornish since he's already accomplished everything in the IRL.

Allmendinger surely went for the money. He can rationalize his decision all he wants about the low car counts, but apparently having one of the top seats in Champ Car wasn't enough.

Oh Bitch,Bitch,Bitch! If any of you don't look at your paycheck and wonder how to improve it it's probably because you are still living at home with your parents footing the bill. For the drivers this is their jobs, their careers. Of course they are going to look at the money. NASCAR is a business. A very successful one. It's built up a very loyal fan base. That brings in the TV coverage, which brings in the sponsors, who provide the money that attracts the drivers. Any well run series can be a success. Look at F1. Even with it's current problems it is the most popular motorsport in the world. If you want to throw stones, then give some thought to "Boy George" at IMS. The CART series used to put on some of the best races anywhere. If it had been properly managed it could have given F1 a run for it's money by now. But, that wasn't good enough for "Boy George". He split it in half and now we are left with 2 mediocre series that have their fingers crossed that they will still be in business in five years. Who can blame drivers for leaving?
Here in the USA the 800lb gorilla in the room is wearing a NASCAR T-shirt. The IRL & CHAMP CAR have only themselves to blame for not having a bigger piece of the action.

Jeff Gordon is a washed up bum. If he can't beat you he will try to wreck you.
Excuse me it's rubbing and rubbing is racing. As said in the movie Thunder Road.

Hey "Honor Grad", were you one of those people who took the short bus to school? Jeff Grodon won two races this season, has more wins than any active NASCAR driver and finished sixth in points this year. He is hardly washed up. And secondly, retard, the movie was "Days of Thunder".

MENARDS, I COMPLETELY AGREE. OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS THE POWERS TO BE AT NASCAR HAVE TRIED SO HARD TO SANITIZE THE SPORT THAT IT HAS BECOME A DULL ROUTINE IN MOST CASES. THEY FORGET THAT A GOOD FIGHT BETWEEN THE ALLISON BROTHERS AND CALE YARBOROUGH IS WHAT BROUGHT NASCAR RACING TO THE FORE FRONT IN MOTOR SPORTS TELEVISION. CONTROVERSY BREEDS INTEREST. NASCAR WAS GETTING IT'S BEST RATINGS WHEN JIMMY SPENCER WAS PUNCHING KURT BUSCH IN THE MOUTH AND TONY STEWART WAS KICKING SOME REPORTER AROUND. NASCAR WAS BUILT ON THE UNIQUE PERSONALITIES OF THE DRIVERS AND THEIR INTERACTION. IN TRYING TO BECOME A NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MOTORSPORTS BODY THEY HAVE TAKEN AWAY THE VERY THINGS THAT MADE IT WHAT IT IS TODAY. POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AND THE NEED TO TRY TO BE ALL THINGS TO EVERYONE IS GOING TO RUIN NASCAR IF THEY DON'T WAKE UP. THE COT IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. I READ ON HERE WHERE PEOPLE THINK THERE WON'T BE ANYMORE CHEATING BECAUSE OF THE CARS WILL BE IDENTICAL. WRONG, IT'S JUST GOING TO GET MORE SOPHISTICATED.

I love that commercial with the cakes, "This is what the 1979 daytona 500 would look like if you werent watching it on high def TV"

THAT was some good racing back in the day. Just look at this years "classic" points standings. JJ would have beat Matt Kenseth by FOUR points!!! FOUR!!! But instead homestead was BORING!!! That would have been the greatest championship race since '92. All for this "Chase" nonsense......

SANITIZED TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT. AND THE SEARCH FOR DEVERSITY, WHAT A CROCK. HERE'S HOW I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SEASON CONDUCTED. FIRST, QUALIFYING IS HISTORY. DRAW FOR STARTING SPOTS. STOP SPENDING MONEY & TIME ON SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T PAY POINTS. SECOND, GO BACK TO THE OLD POINT SYSTEM BUT PUT 25 POINTS ON WINNING SO THAT THE RACE WINNER HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF GAINING 35 POINTS OVER SECOND PLACE INSTEAD OF 10. THIRD, IF NASCAR ISN'T GOING TO INVITE BUT THE TOP 25 TEAMS TO THE BANQUET DO NOT QUANTEE BUT THE TOP 25 IN POINTS A STARTING SPOT. FOURTH, LIMIT OWNERS TO 3 TEAMS REGARDLESS OF WHO IS SHOWN AS THE CAR OWNER. FIFTH, REQUIRE NASCAR LICENSED DRIVERS TO DESIGNATE IN WRITING BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS WHAT DIVISION WILL BE THEIR PRIMARY DIVISION AND LIMIT THEM TO 5 RACES IN ANY DIVISION OTHER THAN THEIR PRIMARY IN A SEASON. SIXTH, PUT IN WRITING IN THE RULE BOOK SPECIFICALLY WHAT CONDUCT NASCAR IS REGULATING AND WHAT THE SPECIFIC PUNISHMENT IS FOR VIOLATING A SPECIFIC RULE. THEN SHUT UP AND STAY THE HELL OUT OF IT IF IT ISN'T IN THE RULE BOOK. IF A DRIVER GETS INTO TROUBLE AWAY FROM THE TRACK, NASCAR SHOULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT.
