If we can bring in the right players this coming offseason, we might be in for a good surprise. I have failed to realize that Cable didn't have the offseason to do things his way because Kiffin was still the coach. We were a mediocore team when Shannahan was fired 4 weeks into the 1989 season and Art Shell took over and they stayed mediocore that year but the next year when he had the full offseason he almost took us to the superbowl and I think he might've if we hadn't been hurt so much by the loss of Bo Jackson...of course Buffalo did beat us earlier that year. Maybe Cable can get us to the next level next year. We really don't need another coaching change. We need to stick with a guy and build a winning team.

Difference is we were a mediocre team in 89 we are not this year...in 89 we finished 8-8 we are 3-10 right now...plus in 89 we had Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen and Willie Gault.... point is there is no parallel....I like you optimisim but it's not fair to compare the two scenarios...

Don't get me wrong, I hope Cable works out. I am soooo tired of losing(as we all are)...I still think Davis can right this ship....I want to get back to our winning ways. I have a chance to see the Raiders at the Bucs this year...As sad as it is I am not going...for a couple reasons...first it would be my first Raiders game and I always wanted it to be in Oakland and I would like to have a winning memory of the game and the Bucs D is tough and we aren't soring much lately. Plus it would be me, my wife and step son...tickets are going to be about $100 each for nose bleed...all that fatored together and I am having a hard time justifying it....If it were in Oakland it would be a no Brainer...

I would agree with the article that a positive in retaining Cable is his relationship with Davis. It seems the team would improve quicker with Davis sharing his knowledge.

I am not sure "bringing in the right players" is the answer. Agreed, it is what the Raiders typically do, but the problem with the team is offense. The poor offense is due to the poor QB play and not having a scheme that utilizes all the current players. Russell will have to improve for the Raiders to improve on offense and as a team. To me, there are other NFL teams that score points with less talent than the Raiders have on offense.

I agree with that logic. JRuss can make this team a whole lot better or keep us playing like we are...but I also think some of that falls on the coaching...Play calling has been miserable , in part because we haven't got a WR....

I know we're on a lower level now than we were then, but if Cable can get us to the mediocore level next year, then it will show life in Cable and it will build confidence in the team and maybe Cable will stick around for a while.

Just because you bring in a good player doesn't mean you bring in the right player. I was never in favor of Javon Walker, but I would've like to see us bring in Bernard Berrian simply because he's a deep threat WR and that is what we need at WR with Russell's arm strength. Right now most of our WRs are more suited for a Rich Gannon type QB. Big reason why I think Jay Cutler would've been a good first round choice for us in 2006 draft because he has good short passing touch and the arm strength for the deep ball.
