Miami went through a 20-year drought in which NO running back rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season. THat drought started in 1978, 5 years BEFORE Marino was drafted.
When they played the 14 game seasons 1000 yd rushers were indeed rare. And rushing for 1000 yds when Marino was at QB was impossible because he was so pass happy.

Tony Nathan AVERAGED 4.8 yds/carry for his CAREER! He certainly was very effective and probably could've had 1000 yds if he was given the ball. 4.8 for a career is excellent in my book.

Don Shula is a legend & should be respected. He gave the dolphins an undefeated season & in the 80's he gave us excitement. I have been mildly excited about the phins since he retired & Marino left. The dolphins have been searching for an identity since the two left. Be real fans and show respect.

And gice thanks to the weak 2008 schedule and a weaker AFC East because that is the only way the Dolphins can win.

Yeah, it's great that that "soft schedule" enabled the Dolphins to go into New England in week #3 and beat the defending AFC champ Pats 38-13 in Foxboro to get their first win of the season.

Thanks schedulers!!! Only you made that first win possible.

IMO, Don is a legend and for good reason. I have a tremendous amount of respect his accomplishments, as I think any true Dolphins fan does. However, legends typically become so inflating a core of historical truth so that in the end it is larger than life in the minds of those who believe it. I think that happens to be the case as well with certain aspects of the Shula years. The best game-day coach ever? Probably. But that shouldn't prevent us from calling a spade a spade. The truth is, he did have checkered record in the draft and the team did become soft in his last years. Shula likes to jokingly blame Marino for the lack of a running game, but he (not Marino) was the coach and if he really wanted to run the ball, he could have. And if you're implying he couldn't control Marino, whose fault is that?

Nor do I appreciate the implication that I'm not a 'real fan' just because I have the guts to give what seems to me an objective assessment of an unfortunate situation.
