Vontae Davis - Police still investigating alleged arrest of Dol...

Cornerback Vontae Davis during practice. The police department in Champaign, Ill., has agreed to delay proceedings in a traffic citation against Dolphins rookie cornerback Vontae Davis until further investigation may be conducted into his claim he was a victim of identity fraud.

There's no way he could have left the training facility at 3:30PM, jumped on a plane, flew to Ill, and hopped into a boom boom bass mobile and then got pulled over by 6:47PM, got back on a plane to Miami for practice at 7:00AM the next morning. The guy was released at the scene so no fingerprints were taken. The Ill police is going to have to drop the case out of stupidity.

If he was driving without a valid license, he should not have been permitted to drive away from the scene. The Champaign PD screwed up and will have to drop this very tragic case. At this point there really is no more to the story.

Furthermore, it's pretty clear that unless Vontae jumped out of a phone-booth right after practice that he couldn't make this round-trip (and why would he?) in such a short amount of time. Here's an idea: bring kryptonite to his next interview and see what happens.

But if the imposter was cited for no valid drivers license then that must mean the real Vontaes' license is not valid because thats the one that was presented. Thats what I get from the story anyways.

Vontae said he reported the license stolen and if that was the reason the license was invalid the officer should have known that. Maybe he has a valid FL license now and not a valid Ill license.

This is ridiculous, Im going with Phinsfan & Marino... Unless he is Superman or owns his own Lear jet, How in the world could he have driven the 7 or 8 miles from Davie to FT. Lauderdale Intl. gotten through the security, taken a flight to Champaign which is an hour and fifty eight minutes in the air, Let alone Champaign doesnt even have an airport capable of handling commercial aircraft. So that means he would have had to gotten a direct flight to Chi. cause if he went into a smaller airport that is closer he would have had to change planes in Atl. and CHI. has got to be at least an hours drive at 85MPH from Champaign. I say they should check the airlines records to see if Davis really got on one of their planes. 3 hours and 15 min. no way...

Sounds like the officer who stopped the imposter could of done a better job verifying the information.

I totally agree. Would the citation not have the tag number and make of the car? It wouldn't take a genius to run the tags and take a little trip to the address for the car and verify the ID. What type of cops do they have up there Keystone? This info should have never leaked unless they had proof.
Why should Davis have to prove his whereabouts when the authorities don't even know who they pulled over?
I also agree there should be a camera on the vehicle (unless they are so backwards they still use sketch artists)
This is nothing more than piss-poor police work. Expecting Davis to prove his innocent while they sit around with their thumb up their a**.

Seems like BS to me. Why is it in today's world someone is taken as guilty before being proven innocent? Thought it was supposed to be the other way around. It's a shame this kid's career has to start like this. Let's move on and keep the stories football related.

EXACTLY!!! I was going to suggest that someone should check the airline records as well. Being that no one has, it's clear that this story has already been put to bed. So why is this "story" still ongoing?

The jets are known more for there blown Draft picks than any other team in the league and you bring up our draft busts to funny loser your world is all about draft busts. I still remember the look on those jet fans face when your stupid team picked Blair Thomas HA HA HA!!!!!! you still have nightmares about that man fumbling, and bumbling his way out of the NFL.
