This is all I know about him - must be why he went undrafted

Jan. 14, 2006

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.(AP)- Tennessee defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, sued this week for injuring a fellow student, will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft, coach Phillip Fulmer said.

A student McDaniel hit in the face during a pickup basketball game last year filed an $800,000 lawsuit Thursday for damages in Knox County Circuit Court.

McDaniel told Fulmer on Friday he had changed his mind about staying in school. Underclassmen have until Sunday to declare for the draft.

"He didn't give a reason," Fulmer said Saturday. "I just wished him well."

Fulmer said he understood given "everything that was going on in his life."

McDaniel said on Wednesday he wanted to remain in school to repay Fulmer and defensive line coach Dan Brooks for standing up for him after he was arrested. He said without the coaches' support he's not sure he would have been allowed back into school.

McDaniel's attorney, Don Bosch, said he couldn't comment on his client's decision.

McDaniel was charged with aggravated assault, a felony, after the incident last January. A video of the basketball court on campus showed McDaniel punching Edward Goodrich in the face and walking away as Goodrich lay on the floor for several minutes.

Goodrich testified four bones in his face were broken and doctors inserted a metal plate to repair his injuries.

McDaniel pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, misdemeanor assault, and was placed under supervised probation.

The university suspended McDaniel retroactively, which wiped out his summer school credits. Fulmer suspended McDaniel for the first two games of the season.

Part of McDaniel's plea agreement was to pay restitution to Goodrich. Bosch said Friday that his client had completed the payments, but would not disclose the amount.

DD don't get your panties in a uproar. They traded a 7th round pick for the guy of which they had 3. He's still young, has some experience and has the same chance of making the team as a 7th round pick, so what did they lose ? 6'8" / 310 lbs sounds like a big boy to me kinda like Vern DenHerder. From what I remember he was pretty good.

Moves are made to improve the team if they don't work out the players they don't like get cut. Not everyone makes the team just because they bring them here.

You guys are missing the point. We just picked up a solid backup on our defensive line for a 7th round pick. Even if he plays 1 series a game this pick would have been worth it. We just added another body that could step into our defensive line if needed. Besides a backup Jags d-linemen isnt that bad. These guys had the top 2 defensive tackles in the NFL 2 years ago. Just ask yourself this. Name the last 5 7th round picks Miami had, and let me know if you would trade any of them in for a backup D linemen. Does anybody remember Dave Wannstedt??? He went after the flashy, high priced players and what happened? When they got hurt, nobody was there to fill in their place. I would rather have an entire team full of solid football players, then 50% studs and 50% Dave Wannstedt players. We are building a champion one piece at a time. And no.. he isnt coming to Miami to start, reserves are important too.

For a 7th round pick...... 6'7 310 and 24. If anything it adds some competition At the position, and it seems this years draft isnt very deep at 3-4 DT's.

So far Parcells and crew have been money when drafting and signing front 7 players on both sides of the ball.

I like the move.

I love how some of you idiots think you know for a fact this guys stinks. Let's get this straight...Bill Parcells and company turned a 1-15 team into an 11-6 team. You can't even keep a third shift job at 7-11. Whose opinion do you think we should value more?

A low risk pickup for only a 7th round pick. he has excellent size at 6'7" 310lbs and has long arms. I am curious which position he will end up at defensive end or nose tackle.

I believe this was an excellent pickup that did not cost much!

Really big, fits Tuna's mold, has long arms, can play several positions along the line. This is all about building depth. Low-risk move that could pay big dividends.

Sounds like a win win situation to me. a 7th round pick, for a YOUNG reclamation project. He has NFL expereince already. We will see. Like C H N F a couple posts ago said, I will trust the trifecta, who has succeeded thus far, over even the best of "fans" .

Low risk, Possible high reward. The Tuna stalks again. Someone will bitch about it, if it does not work we will lose the 275th pick next year who could turn us around. Lol I can't believe anyone could complain about this move to back up a position w/possible upside. IF so, Fungu

The Doofins pickup another jag player?
Wasn't Wilford bad enough?
Why the desparation?
They have no 5th or 6th now one less 7th
I guess they must know something, then again from last years FA pickups maybe they don't

6'7 and 310 pounds ? How about missed 23 out of 48 games. A whole 16 tackles and a whopping 1.5 sacks last year ? From Tennesse and always hurt, sounds like another Eddie Moore to me. I can hardly wait.

Once again WHO IS THE JETS QUARTERBACK???
Without a quarterback how will you score? Or are you building a Raven Defensive Team like they did in their Superbowl win? Hoping they will do all the scoring. Of course you only have a couple of their players and not one of them is named Ed Reed.
Why don't you go play in interception alley with your Brett Farve Jersey.
Leave the football talk to the big boys and girls.
