If Matt Flynn signs with the raiders then Carson Palmer's out he cost too much money and will not restructure his contract.

Oops I meant if Matt Flynn is traded to the raiders then Carson will be let go. Yeah Kelly was good but. He had a lot of penalties called against him.

At this point I'm guessing were keeping Palmer, releasing him would only save us a few mill...I guess another yr waiting pryor, the guys got intangibles that we need to see on the field, just like mcfadden..who knows maybe SOME read option with the two could mount to something.what else we got left..its almost like mckensie & company are sayin "ok,we can't beat the donks with manning so let's rebuild" I do get the cap issue, but man couple yrs ago we were right there,y scrap the team and start over...obviously I live in wisc, and the pack,ya there good but every year they have plenty of money to spend and don't.hope this isn't the track were taking, could be another 10yrs before a quarterback like A.Rodgers comes along!!!!

Tommy Kelly was one of my favorite Raiders of this era but his age was catching up to him so I figure his time was coming. I appreciate his service to RaiderNation...I guess this means we're going for Sharrif Floyd in the draft.

You really think so? In my opinion, the guy was too hot headed, caused way to many penalties, and didn't produce enough.....wont be missed at all...bring on Sharif Floyd!!!

Kelly's production was waaaay down last year. Only one sack compared to 14.5 the two years prior. 18 QB pressures as opposed to an average of 30/yr the two years prior. Definitely not worth the 6.5 million that he was scheduled to earn this year. Yes, it's starting to look like Floyd at #3.

Can some one tell me y we are just cutting these guys and not waiting till the draft & try trading them, heck a 7th rounder is better then nothing..like stated,we have cap room...

i take it mackenzie is releasing for cash. or as T_RAIDER was stating, that these guys probably aren't worth trading or are of no value to other teams worth trading for "unquote". i know they may seem worth here to fans and coaches, but they are value to other teams. we too play the game and pick up someone else's trash. see which works out better?! what we ought to wonder is, why we kept kelly so long if he wasn't worth keeping?

I don't think it is a fair assessment to look at the Stats alone. Kelly benefited stat-wise from the presence of Seymour and King Richard getting all the attention. With Seymour out, Kelly received all the attention and Bryant benefited. Is the Kelly overpaid? Debatable. One may believe that about the whole contract, the previous two years and last year. Regardless, Kelly's release is just another example of the genocide by the new regime. To me, that is a bigger issue than the money.

I doubt that any team in the league will sign Kelly for more than 2-3 million/season at this point in his career (similar to Huff). These are the types of contracts the new regime was left to deal with. Genocide is pretty dramatic Freddy. It's more like an enema.

Kelly re-signing with the Raiders is still a possibility.....at a cheaper price. As well as some of the other FA we haven't re-signed.

First of all, I did not think Kelly was overpaid. How Al Davis knew that his young right end, coming off a season-ending knee injury, would be the guy to replace Sapp the following year, is beyond description. As far as I am concerned, Kelly played up to his contract. He has been a disruptive force. Now as far as getting money similar to Huff, not a big prediction. Most of these guys are getting double-paid. Not just Raiders, but most of the guys being let go by teams. Is Kelly worth more than 2 million. Yes. Huff. Yes. That is why you don't see very many trades. As far as these type of contracts and a mess was left for McKenzie, I don't suscribe to that. I will concede that Palmer's contract was not in Al's figures, but that is not what is happening. McKenzie does not want run things the way Al did. That is a big difference than inheriting a mess. It is a difference in philosophy, not what is wrong or right. As far as enema vs. genocide, an enema cleans things out and basically the same stuff comes back. Genocide is cleaning out with the deliberate intention that the same thing does not coming back. Genocide is not overly dramatic. It is an accurate description of what is happening.
