Damn, I guess we should have kept Orton and our draft picks so we could pick up Boldin? Then Boldin can run down the field and have the ball undrethrown/overthrown whatever. Get over it Haugh, Orton is gone, thank the Lord.

Dave,
I don't suppose there's any way Angelo could put together a compensation package that is essentially cash, in lieu of draft picks or personnel? Afterall, this is the pro's and that makes it all about money, right? Just thinking out loud. GO BEARS, TEAR 'EM UP!!! |

Suppose instead of trading for Cutler and making an offer (2, 2nd round picks, maybe a 3rd too, and a player) for for Boldin, the Bears were to keep all these picks and instead use them over the course of the next two years to draft guys that will be as good as these two, Cutler and Boldin.
First of all this would not happen. The Bears are not that good at drafting. Second, if it did, we would all be saying Angelo had amazing drafts. I say try to make a trade. If they can pull it off you have two young pro-bowl players to your lineup, while giving up nothing but possibilities, in draft picks. We are going to use a second or third draft pick this year anyway for a receiver. Throw in a little more and you can instead get someone like Boldin. |

It is not too realistic for a team to pull off two Block Buster trades in one off season. Mainly because of all the resources it takes to make even one big deal like that. Just because you want a player, doesnt mean you can always make it happen. I am so happy with the Cutler deal,he is only 25. So we will begin to build around him. We already have a great running back and two tight ends! A speedster in Hester who will be going deep with Cutler often! Hester will break out in his 3rd season this year,he is comfortable now. Bennett and Cutler already know eachother from playing together and They played Very well together. We shored up the O-line this off season. We need another receiver and the Bears Know It! There is still time & opportunities ahead. We have the draft, free agency & Final cuts in June(dont forget about that). A good receiver could get released in June. We didnt trade the draft away, like some are exaggerating. We still have 8 picks, 1-2nd rd pick,1-3rd rd pick,1-4th rd pick,2-5th rd picks,1-6th rd pick & 2-7th rd picks. Angelo has done well with later round picks anyway. Not having a 1st rounder this year is waay worth having Cutler!! Thanks again Mcdaniels, for running off Cutler! Take care fellow Bear fans. Yeah, baby,Bear Down! GO BEARS,2009 DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!

Given the Bears success in drafting receivers with high draft picks, I agree with you completely. |
Amen! Go the free agent/trade route and try to trade whatever you can. No harm in checking it out. Next year there are some pretty highly touted free agent WRs that should be available as well. Having Cutler sure gives you a lot of latitude to build the rest of the team. GO BEARS! PS We have Cutler, can you believe it? |

Wide recievers come and go. I would take Cutler over Bolden any day of the week. What's the point of getting a pro bowl wideout when there's no one to pass him the ball (we all remember what Grossman and Co. did to The Moose who was coming off of a great year). A promising QB has a better chance of helping your time down the road. I will say that the division is not a lock quite yet; there are a few tough games in the schedule and Mr. Peterson will still embarass our defense as he always does. Build your secondary/defense through he draft and get a free agent wideout for crying out loud. Sign Marvin Harrison to a one year deal (since Holt ain't comin here) and allow Bennet AND Hester to develope...they still cannot be heavily relied on when the game is one th line. Playmakers win games.

There is no way the Cards would trade him to any team in the NFC anyhow. Why would they?

Great Article... I would just also add that there will be talented wide receiver free agents in the coming years who will come to Chicago...

Hester for Boldin!
Get over what? I don't think that was the article's point. Maybe you should reread it. |

We probably needed Boldin more than we needed Cutler. Who exactly is Cutler going to throw to? I think we're going to realize that Devin Hester is not a top-tier receiver. We might have tight ends, but no one else seems to be able to get open consistently or hold onto the ball. With no one to throw to, Cutler will not be able to save us from our inept GM. By the time we have draft picks that might help, we'll have so many holes to fill, we'll never compete.

I disagree with the article... If David had a mercedes in his driveway, he still wouldn't be the coolest guy in the neighborhood.

If they get Boldin, they have no more excuses, no way the put themselves in that situation.
I agree. I'd take one Cutler over two Boldins six days a week and twice -- make that especially -- on Sunday. |
A solid QB can make due with OK receivers. But the best WRs will struggle with mediocre QBs. I also think Hester will improve this year, because he will actually have a QB that can him him in stride deep, or lead him on slants. |
I don't know when we turned into a high powered offense. Why would we trade away our defense for a wide receiver? You think Lovie is going to make himself look bad the first year he takes over defense? I agree we need a solid receiver, but maybe we should look to free agency, there should be a good veteran left.

this is the second article in a row by Haugh where he doesnt mention Orton at all but some Moron comes in and saying get over Orton. lol This nations educational system is blah ..
This is the offseason so Cutler will make everyone better but as soon as we kickoff the excuses makers will be out in force about how we need better receivers . We have a franchise QB thats all we need just put the ball in his hands and watch him work his magic. |

the thing that is forgotten is that the really good teams are built thru the draft. they may sign an occasional free agent but a bulk of their team is via the draft. in trades and free agency you get players that preformed, but it was in another system and a different situation. there is no way to know that it will work on a different team. drafts allow a team to groom a player. regardless of how everyone thinks angelo's picks have turned out, the best players are home grown. just like most nfl teams.
