I am glad that Kazanjian and Fatacanti were voted out. They are an embarrassment to the city. If only we could get Rita out. Who want to give "ink" to someone who says they "formally
believe they Pare doing the right thing." Did you take English in school, Rita??? I am sorry you won.

Well then, I guess I am a blow-in, as I've only lived here 6 years, and have just really starting to learn about the political scene here vs. just learning about the issues peripherally enough to vote.
As for "a lot of places, not just Lowell," I've never heard the term in all my life.
Maybe you should get out more. Massachusetts residents who move to NH are commonly called, among other things, "blow-ins."

Those thoughts also ran through my mind as well. I'm sure he's bright and claims to be a "stonemason" - but I'm sure that's not where he plans to "end up" in life. He's a nice young man but also very ambitious and I believe the Lowell City Council is, for him hopefully, a low rung on his ladder to success. Should be interesting to watch him in the next two years ...
The man has stonework all over the Merrimack Valley and beyond. He's actually one of the best stone masons in the area. I'm happy for him. I don't know what the allegation is here. That he isn't actually a blue-collar worker? And that somehow precludes him from being smart? Or being principled? I think we want people to hold office that know hard work, but that are also successful. Why shouldn't we want him to aspire to be and do more?

After first meeting Patrick, I was brought back to Mr Smith goes to Washington! May Patrick prove to be of high integrity and a hard worker. I believe he is the genuine deal!!!

Well I guess you are then.

Glad I could educate you.

You've really never heard that term before?

No the Manager included the meals tax in his budget. The Council questioned the wisdom of that and the Manager said it wouldn't have to be voted on prior to December 1st but if it didn't pass the City was looking at an equivalant of 30-40 more jobs being cut. You can watch the meeting online at the LTC.
<quoted text>
Ok so now they will lay off 30-40 people instead? They can't have it both ways. They approved the budget but not the funding for it.

Don't take it personally. The old-timers in Lowell call anyone and everyone who did not grow up her a "blow-in", most especially people running for public office. They don't believe blow-in's can support the city "their way". It's something I'm sure Franky heard time and time again while she was campaigning. I don't know her but I believe she meant that the city needs the ideas and support of everyone, Lowell natives and blow-in's alike. She has a vested interest in making Lowell better as she owns three businesses downtown and since she's a blow-in herself, I'm sure she didn't mean to offend anyone.
but, Bud's a blow in, by way of Billerica...go figure.

I'm originally from the NH seacoast, and we just called them transplants and Massholes.

Blow ins? That is just craziness, whomever coined the term. A resident is a resident. There are long time residents as well as new residents. Get over it.
