The kid is an absolute stud and will go in the second round. The NFL running game has evolved to encompass both power and quickness/illusiveness. So few backs can be both, so teams usually have two backs to complement the running game. I hope he has a long career and stays away from significant injury. Power backs that absorb big hits tend to have shorter careers than guys like Emmitt Smith who were success in deflecting big hits.
His family and community must be very proud of him and his sisters who are standout softball players, too.

Amazing how racial politics now wind up being part of the NFL draft, I for one think Gerhart would make a fine tailback has he has proven himself in game day scenario's. Playing in the Pac 10 is a very good training ground for most players who want to make it at the next level.

To knock Gerhart because of his race is ludicrous! I for one would hope that the Chargers will give this guy a strong look but who ever gets him will be gaining a bargain if he is passed up due to his skin color.

The notion that a football player can be downgraded because he is white is absolutely ridiculous. It makes a mockery of the NFL draft and reflects badly on the teams whose employees have said this is the reason they won't go with him high in the draft. It is the same ridiculous logic that occurred years ago when NFL scouts weren't interested in black quarterbacks.

I wish nothing but good luck to Gerhart. I believe he got the shaft in the Heisman voting. He's been proving people wrong during his time at Stanford, and now it is time to prove them wrong in the NFL.

Man your right on here, he proved what a stud he was all last year, I guess a white kid from a top notch academic school doesn't get his props, except Jim Plunkett. SI had a good story about how his color will hurt him in the draft.
