I say do it right now.Forget about Jackson and trading away our future.I really dont think that the Patriots would do it though because Randy is a big part of their offense.Their must be someone else we could get though.

Randy Moss WAS great but he's older and not the same guy who terrorized DBs years ago. Its just reality. For every circus catch that he makes now he drops three. Two years ago Favre was begging to bring Moss to the Vikings. Does he still want him? This is the perfect time to trade him - when he still has some value.
People say just pay him, but there is (except this year) a salary cap and overpaying player A means you can't pay player B. It's all about value. An owner tries to get as many good players as he can within a payroll fixed by the league. The 49ers tried all kinds of gimmicks to circumvent the cap in the 80s-90s and they paid for it with a decade of last place finishes.
Moss is going to want more than what he's worth and I say all the power to him. But find another team that's willing to pay you based on past performance. The patriots organization isn't stupid. After all this is Boston - not NYC.
