Spielman says Vikes drafted him to play tailback, hmmmm. He finished 2nd in career yds. at Stanford behind D. Nelson, not sure if that is good or bad, lol. Actually I loved Nelson's game, too bad he will always be remembered for that drop against Washington. Bienemy loved him, now it starts to make sense!! GO VIKES.

I was really hoping they could have landed Decker as well, just for the novelty of having a black QB, and a white RB and WR. That would have really messed with people's heads...

Seriously though, there were a lot of stories the past couple weeks quoting scouts who said Gerhart was absolutely a late first round value, but that he would slide a bit just because people can't wrap their heads around the idea of a white RB in the NFL. Could prove to be a great value, even with the extra pick they traded to draft him.

He has drawn parallels to John Riggins from what I have heard and read.

As a white man, I can't believe the lurking bias I find inside myself toward a white running back. It's really weird, and I don't like it.

Oh, by the way -- comparin him to John Riggins, as someone suggested? What's that? A big, lumbering, heavy-legged bruiser who runs north and south with the ball tucked in his gut and his head down? If that supposedly "positive" comparison isn't just exactly the bias I'm talking about, I don't know what is.

I was shocked when we didn't select a qb. I heard from a reliable source,if Farve does'nt return Kevin Williams will be converted to the starting qb since he played qb in pee wee football...

I like it, this seems to be a guy that can step up and contribute right away. Good pick.

I'm just glad no one has compared him to Jarvis Redwine. One of the worst picks ever.

Um, you know, the Hall of Famer John Riggins... Superbowl champ John Riggins... No "off the field issues" John Riggins. If that's the comparison Gerhart gets to a former player, I'll take him in a nanosecond (as they oft say at Stanford).

Sounds like a good kid, but I have to wonder how Bienemy still has a job on this staff, given AD's fumbling problems that have not improved much. Isn't that practically job #1 with RB coach? I'm hoping Toby can emerge as our goal-line guy this year, then maybe a 3rd down specialist next year, and a featured back afterward. We could have our version of Csonka and Kiick if all goes well.

Favre will enjoy switching from play to play with either Peterson or Gerhart.

Well, he's not Chuck Foreman, Tony Dorsett, or John Riggins, and he definately is not going to be arm-tackled. With that tandem, if our O-line doesn't step it up a bit with AD and TG behind them, they don't know the deep-down meaning of owning a "Lombardi Trophy." If we can pick a solid D Line backup, possibly another linebacker who can give the other guys "a blow" we are rock solid, provided the HOFer comes back...

He's got some Jerome Bettis in him and a nose for the stripe. Nice.

I like this pick, not many white running backs in the leage but I think it was a good selection. Two busing running backs are nice to have.

In addition to graduating from Stanford, the kid graduated Valedicatorian from high school. That's probably an NFL first.

Like Brian Billick said, "Coupled with Adrian Peterson, the Vikings have just come out and said we're going to bludgeon you to death."
