The last solid Dline we had was Howie Long, Chester McGlockton, Nolan Harrison, and Greg Townsend. Even when Long and Townsend retired and were replaced by Anthony Smith and Pat Swilling, they were still all right, but not the same. Darrell Russell, Grady Jackson, and Rod Coleman was a good set of DTs, but we had no DEs that played with consistancy. The DL of Tony Bryant, Sam Adams/Rod Coleman, John Parella, and Trace Armstrong in the superbowl 37 season played well, but they only lasted 1 season. We definatly need an upgrade on the DL.

Please do not mention the words "well" with "Super Bowl 37" ever again. Gruden embarrassed us 48–21.

The last draft pick that did that was Chester McGlockton. Darrell Russell was a Pro Bowler prior to his troubles, but wasn't the electrifying moster McGlockton was. There was also Rod Coleman who was pretty much just an interior passrushing specialist that caught my attention right away and I hated to see him go.

Yeah, I hated to see Coleman leave as well. Gotta believe Al is going to address the pitiful run defense in this draft.

I would not describe the Raider defense as pitiful against the run. The Raider defense had the most rushing attempts against them in the league last year. Yes, there avg. per attempt could improve, but the run-defense could be helped most by an offense that can keep the ball or get a lead forcing the opponent to pass more.

Have to admit as much as I hate to, it was ranked 31st against the run. That was pitiful.@009 will be a huge improvement. Cant go nowhere but up I guess, cant see it going down by one.

one player i would like to see in RAIDER uniform is jason taylor. yeah i know he may go back to the dolphins and has had injuries lately but he still has football in him. he was planning on getting out of football a few years back before the skins picked him up and has lost heart to play. but he is a great football player and playing for oakland would be up his alley if given the chance.

Historically, Al Davis doesn't draft many DT's with 1st round picks. DE's are another story. With no DE REALLY worth a top 10 pick, i think the need goes to WR. If Crabtree is gone at 7, then I think trading down into the middle of the draft would be key.

Let's imagine that Mark Sanchez(who lit it up at his pro day) is being sought after by SF and another team. The Raiders could field offers, trade 1st round picks, and get another 2nd rounder and 5th round out of the deal.

SF gets a QB that isnt retarded, and the raiders get a guy like Britt, Nicks, or Heyward bey. Instant upgrade at WR, plus we get to have an early 2nd round DT and then another OT or OLB or S.

No names in mind right now. I just want to see more than 5 picks by the Raiders on draft day!

Hey Mike! Have you seen enough film to determine how much better Raji is than Brace. I've heard that this has been the million dollar question for many scouts, i.e. should the Raiders take Crabtree if he's available at #7 (instead of Raji), and hope that Brace is there for them in round two. I like what I've seen/heard about Heyward-Bey as well. With Crabtree's surgery and no 40 time, it's hard to know which way Al will go in this draft. Any combination of those four at receiver/D.T. for the Raiders would be seem to be a huge upgrade. Your thoughts?

(LOL) i like the fact of picking a #7. but trading down and getting more picks wouldn't be such a bad idea. even at #2 we should still get a good player whoever it is!

Well, the only two DTs that he ever drafted in the first round that actually played DT were consistant All Pros named Chester McGlockton and Darrell Russell. As a matter of fact, he traded up to draft Russell. The only other DT he drafted in the first round was Sean Jones, and he ended up playing DE. I'd like to see more than 5 picks by the Raiders on draft day too, but not at the expense of dealing away quality players.

The difference between Raji and Brace(in college at least) is like watching Warren Sapp and Ted Washington(of the Pats) on the same line.

Raji(Warren Sapp) can do it all, is generally more athletic and is certainly more mobile and faster with better technique.

Brace(Ted Washington) just straight up bull rushes the OL every single play. Not great at chasing down plays, not great vision or speed. But, he can clog up the A and B gaps all day long because of his size and motor.

Heyward Bey, i am not too sure of at No.7. This guy played with a qb that was garbage and in an offense reminiscent of the 2000 Ravens. That is, the QB only throws for 2,000 yards a season. Not great stats combined with the fact he came early out of college...

DL is a big issue. It probably is our biggest need this year. But me personally, I love offense. What i want to see is the Raiders in the top 15 in scoring. A competent WR could help with that.

That's what i think at least.

Sounds like Brace would be the better addition to our DL than Raji because Tommy Kelly is the do it all DT like Warren Sapp was and Brace would compliment him greatly there.

For what it's worth, Mayock's got Al taking Heyward-Bey at #7, i.e. size/speed thing. Would Brace still be around for their second pick?

I think what the Raiders need is:
Captain Canada at QB
Texas Raider at C
UK Steve at WR
Freddy at RB
Raider Misterio at OG
Raider Nation at OT
Mike Moran at TE

Then we have a foundation to work with as a team....

I actually played OLB and DE...If I could get back in HS shape I might have a good enough 40 time for the Raiders.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
