If I understand this correctly, the guy was arrested for something that is legal in all but the most draconian of states. Somebody please tell me that there is more to this story. I could understand this if he had threatened someone with a gun. But if he is being arrested just for owning the guns and keeping them in his home, God help the people of IL. I would be curious to know what "real" crimes were being committed while the police were trampling on this guy's rights. I believe that if I were a victim of a crime in the jurisdiction of that police force, I would be filing a complaint against the department. Police need to fight crime, not enforce a politically motivated agenda. Incidentally, I am extremely pro-police in just about every possible scenerio. Not in this one,(unless there is more to this story).

I also was questioning what PROBABLE CAUSE the Gurnee police had for conducting a raid in the first place. My husband was astounded when he learned about the fact people in IL must have a Firearms ID document. We have only been living in McHenry County for about 13-14 months. My husband is from northern Calif originally and couldn't believe you had to have a permit to keep weapons in your home. We understand a permit to carry. Maybe the types of arms found is the issue, too, but once again.....what probable cause did the Gurnee police have???

No Probable Cause...Gun rights??? Tank J. involved in a shooting 12/15/2006, had enough?

The probable cause was that Tank Johnson, Willie Posey (shot and killed 12/15/2006) and other un-named thugs liked to shoot guns and smoke dope on Tank’s back porch (sounds like a fun mix of activities). Not sure how shooting guns (in residential neighborhoods) and drug parties are viewed in the great states of TX and CA, but here in IL --we tend to frown on this behavior. Note: NFL players, like Tank, tend to live in the really nice neighborhoods. The neighbors had been complaining about gunfire, neglected pit-bulls, and dope smoking thugs for months. The police finally had the balls to do something. They should have done something a long time ago.

Did I mention that Tank’s partner in crime, Willie Posey, was shot and killed last night (Fri night/Sat morning)? Tank was right there when it happened. Do people in TX and CA also think that OJ was innocent? TX & CA, great places to live; if you like guns, dope, pit-bulls, large African-American men doing whatever the hell they want….

Hey TX pro-police guy, lets give our guys in Blue some credit! They knew what they were doing.

If what you say is true, ok. That is not what is being said in the national media. As far as I understand it, the case of his friend being shot was an unrelated bar fight. I have yet to read anything that says that Johnson is guilty of anything other than owning a few guns. And, I certainly haven't heard or read anything (including your statements) that would justify sending in the SWAT team. But, as I said in my original post; I am will to listen if there is more to this story. Incidentally, I discussed this case with half a dozen Houston area officers and to a man they were disgusted with the actions of the police. Once again, having said all of that, if there is more to the story I will be the first to admit my mistake. But, that still doesn't change the fact that it is an absolutely illegal infringement on any American's rights when they are forced to register a legally purchased firearm.

Not sure what type of cops ya'll have down there in Texarkana, but the police up here do their homework before going into the house of an NFL player. There is a lot more to the story; its easy to judge if you do not have all the facts. In fact, ask your officer friends to pull the police record of this guy and the domestic calls to his house. Then they would probably say the cops up here are incompetent for waiting so long and for not using a tank to go in. Tank Johnson has a long history with the law and is currently on probation.

From the Lake County police. I work in Lake County. There is also plenty of material in the newspaper and local news. One should do their homework before letting you fingers do the talking; hearsay and opinions should be kept between yourself and your pets. In the past year there were over 20 domestic complaints against Tank and crew. Many people (people who actually live in Gurnee –Lake County) think the police waited too long to take action.

Some information out there for all the non-illinois residents.

Tank is charged with 6 Misdemeanor counts of not having a FOID card. This means only one thing, he did not go to the state of Illinois and register for the Firearms Owners Identification Card (FOID). You must have this in the communist state of illinois to be a gun owner, and to purchase ammunition.

Frankly, you can't even NOT own a gun and be able to purchase ammo without it either. It's overly draconian IMHO. Thats one of the reasons I no longer live in that state, even tho I was born there.

Also for those who haven't been paying attention. The police raided the house because his neighbors have been complaining for months about gunfire in their neighborhood from Tank's house. Keep in mind, this is a posh place, it ain't some remote back country where you can go plinkin at will without raising a ruckus. It's just stupid to be popping off your guns in a residential district, especially with a bunch of up tight yuppies for neighbors who would prolly piss themselves if they saw an actual gun.

I'm not excusing Tank here, I'm just fleshing out details. Frankly, Tank has behaved badly. Which is not really any shock, the Bears knew he was a discipline problem when they drafted him, ignored it, and are now reaping the rewards.
