Is Briggs' grip on Chicago slipping, like a hand on the wheel?

Lance Briggs last Saturday night made his first appearance at Soldier Field since publicly declaring that he did not care to play for the Chicago Bears ever again. Full Story

Kudos to you for commenting on the duplicity of the fans with regard to Briggs and Grossman. Briggs is a jerk and Grossman is a Bear. A big distinction.

What's the big deal Mr. Downey? Maybe the Mr. Brigg just wanna be home in time to catch his 8 hrs beauty sleep before Bears practice this AM, that's why he didn't want to wait around for a tow truck at 3AM.

He didn't miss practice and you're itching with the noose. If he'd missed this AM practice, you'll probably be sharpening your scalpel readying for his scalp.

In my eyes this isn't a comparison between Grossman and Briggs. Who likes who and who don't. Or what fan thinks Briggs is great and what fan thinks Grossman is? I live in PA and use the internet to see news about the Bears. One thing that I am totally tired of and constantly complaining about is all the negative publicity towards the Bears. No matter what it is about, the negativity is always there. And exaggerated BIG TIME. And I do check out other teams just to see if it is as bad for them as it is for the Bears. It never is. I like Grossman and I like Briggs. Grossman does need to get his inconsistancy worked out and Briggs should not of been out at 3:00am at nightclubs. This team needs to set some rules and guidelines and be done with it. I love the Bears and always will but I would love to see some positive comments alot more about the team and not or the negative things.

I find it more than interesting that most of the comments ignore the possible and likely causes of the crash and its inherent reflections on the man. Color is irrelevant, as it is with most issues, it is the deed - and what the deed says about the character of the involved individual. Whether he wants to be a Bear or not has no bearing on the issue either.

Mike, the reason Briggs doesn't get booed is because he plays good football for the team... that is really all that matters... the righteousness of sports writers is getting a little too intolerable... if only we could all be as truly good as sportwriters are, there would be no war, peace on earth.

Apparently, Downey is correct in determining that on-field performance is the only thing that matters to many Bears fans. It is a sad statement of where we are as a society: preferring to ignore or feebly attempt to justify reckless and dangerous behavior by athletes because they win games for "us." Rex may not be that good behind center at times, but he exemplifies how an athlete should conduct himself away from the field. I will continue to like him as a person even if he fails at QB.

Careful! It's a long way between strangling dogs and crashing your own expensive car. Fans understand that. As far as booing Grossman goes, it's the Philadelphia syndrome. We should all leave Grossman alone until he does something bad when it counts.
