A- to D+ is just about right ... for ALL draft evaluations right after a draft is made. More telling would be to evaluate the draft of three years ago for all of the teams. Less topical (so it won't get done) but more telling.

Gooden will be a beast! The safety from Notre Dame could be another John Lynch. Rice was a good pick and Joe Flacco has the ability to be as good as some other 'not-so-ordinary' Joes (Nameth, Montana).

We could be in for some exciting times!

How about, unlike 2003 when we really panicked and drafted Boller, whether it was too early or not, we actually got the outright #2 quarterback on our board.

How about, we have a young Left Tackle in Jared Gaithers.

How about, we added depth to our running back position with a guy who did not fumble at all his last collegiate year.

How about, special teams does matter in the NFL when you have guys like Devin Hester to try and stop. So then, we strengthened that position.

How about the young linebacker we got at a bargain position to go along with the other two young linebackers from last year's draft that everyone seems to forget about.

How about, we have two possession recievers and a young deep threat in Demetrius Williams who just wasn't healthy last year and none of whom got the opportunity to blossom in Billick's offense.

How about we got another young work hard/hard hitting safety to add depth at that position, so that we don't have to see Gerome Sapp back there anymore.

How about, while Fabian Washington would not be your ideal #1 CB in comparison to how great McAlister can be, he can be a great nickel back and step in as a solid #2 if one of the two starters get hurt.

How about we added solid depth to a defense who, despite all of the injuries and bad offense, still finished 6th in the NFL last season.

The only thing I may have liked to have seen is that we might be able to get Cromartie and still manage to get Flacco and Rice. Nevertheless, this draft was good to go if you ask me.

I'd give it a B.

P.S. None of us will really know until a few years from now.

All anyone is doing is guessing. did anyone know that Brady would be who he is today? How about Preist Holmes? Everyone was so sure he wasn't even worth a pick so he came to the Ravens as a undrafted free agent. Blah ...Blah ...Blah... the only one I trust is Mel Kiper.

Do any of these so called "experts" do any research or do they just see a big quarterback and say he is slow and "lumbering". I've heard several analysts on TV say that Flacco has "cement in his shoes" yet when you look at his highlights he's rolling out of the pocket, scrambling, and effectively avoiding the rush. He also posted the best score for a QB on the cone agility drill at the combine in the last 13 years. That includes guys like Vince Young, Rothlisberger, McNabb, etc. I ask you, how could he have heavy feet and do that? I think I need to apply for a sports writers job because it's easy money.

I'd say B. Most of the grade depends on how Flacco turns out. While most people say we reached for Flacco at 18 instead of waiting until 26, better play it safe and get the QB you want than be sorry and let the QB problems continue for even longer.
Ray Rice should be a solid second running back and give McGahee some rest in games. Almost all of the other picks should come in and make immediate impacts on special teams.
Also, you have to consider Fabian Washington, and Jared Gaither who we used our 5th round pick to get over the summer.

Gerome Sapp hasnt done anything wrong since He's been here...and He's one of only a couple of DB's who you can say that about....Ronnie Prude and Gerome Sapp have played very well and are worthy of being retained.

Too late on Sapp, although I agree. He was recently cut.

Hey Cleveland Brown fans, if you didn't support that purple team, and they left down, maybe JUST MAYBE the Colts would move back to Baltimore, and you would be rooting for the REAL Colts. NOT the transplanted Cleveland Browns

Newsflash kids...Phil Savage is whippin Oziie newsome and Eric Decostas a--'s like he was their daddy...in less than 3 years he has completely flip flopped the Browns and Ravens.....and he sends his thanks for Derrick Anderson and Jamal Lewis [Kordell Stewart /Corey Fuller!!!!ha ha ha]....who so many of you said was done and took to many steps etc...Tim Zbikowski is not an upgrade over Gerome Sapp and netheir he or nakumura can not cover any starting NFL receiver who runs into their area's...drafting players for special teams is absurd especially when you were 5 and 11... thats not a luxury you have... thats silly... Ray Rice Is not and Upgrade over Musa Smith or Mike Anderson and is similar to Corey Ross....Tavers Gooden is very good linebacker but Dennis Haley May have been just as good given a chance....the Ravens are spinning their wheels like the jets have always done.... releasing guys and replacing them with guys who are not upgrades and in some cases are not as good ...meanwhile Savage is hitiing homeruns and doing things that actually need to be done by priority....get used to just enjoying the games but dont think about being competitive for any titles for any time in the forseeable future.

Maybe it's just me, but Rob sounds like a bitter high school girl who got stood up for the prom.

:0)

(And I have a feeling this is just the beginning. He's been saying for months now that the Ravens only draft strategy needed to be drafting two corner backs. That didn't happen. Rob isn't happy. And we're going to be hearing about it now for a long time, I fear.)

if Im wrong call me on it....but let me ask you skay.... was I wrong last year....what Have I told you that didnt prove to be true...I told you the Ravens were headed for a fall last season when all of you and the so called experts were hyped up because of what Adalius Thomas and the defense had accomplished the previoius year.... told you Smith was the best quarterback option they had before he even got on the field... and I dont think those are things that are hard for anyone to see....to many agendas, to many ideas take things away from the obvious and out of perspective for the Ravens.... you say I oversimplify I say they outthink themselves....Savage is meat and potatoes the Ravens are trying to be broccoli suflay

1. Whatever you "predicted" last year has no relevance on the 2008 draft.

2. I was NEVER one of the people who thought the Ravens were going to have a good year, even when they got off to a 4-2 start.

3. What I think you're wrong about is saying that this draft is a bust before we've even seen a single one of them in a Ravens uni.

4. I think you're "wrong" in being able to predict how ANY of the 2008 CBs that were drafted are going to perform in the NFL.

5. I think you're doing nothing more than guessing and extending beyond what is known when you predict that Rex isn't going to be able to field a competitive defense with the players currently on the roster coupled with the players we drafted.

6. If Savage were so insightful and knowledgable about his own QBs, why then did he give Seattle the option to take either Fry or Anderson. Didn't HE know that Anderson was so much better than Fry?

7. I've enjoyed your input in a lot of posts, but if all we're going to be hearing from you is how the Ravens blew the draft because they didn't draft 2 CBs, you'll end up being just like old19fan with his Boller obsession.
