I think most coaches would prefer for rook QBs to learn from the sidelines. If the team has the luxury of a starting QB who's getting the job done. That said, there's nothing like being in real games. Just look at the QB for the Packers.....he's been learning for 4 years.

You are what you are. If you can run with the big dogs, the people that evaluate will know it one way or another. If you can't, not playing only hides the obvious.
A QB's surrounding cast will effect his ability to be successful, but will not keep him from being able to show that he is, or is not the problem.
It's nice to have a Brett Favre to learn from, but learning from a jouneymen or less talented QB cannot be good.
Nothing beats seeing it when it's right in front of you and you have to react to it.

Couldn't agree more Joe. I'd love to see Penny stay healthy all year and maybe even start next year as our starter. From what we've seen so far, the upside on Henne seems endless. Let him soak up all this knowledge and come out prepared when the time comes.

Go Fins!!!

It would be nice to have a big lead in a couple of games and let Henne get more game experience.

This is so true. As a Ravens fan, I constantly hear that Boller would have been a better QB if he had sat a year instead of starting right away. Boller is who he is. He should have been a fifth round pick. Billick ignored major red flags from Boller's days at Cal: Boller completed fewer than 50% of his passes despite being in a Jeff Tedford offense. He never had it; no amount of coaching can make him have it.

You don't get "ruined" by starting early in the NFL. Starting as a rookie just begins the process of revealing whether or not the QB can play.

With that said, I think Henne will be a good QB. He immediately stepped in at Michigan was pretty good in a pro-style offense.

Despite his seven picks, I think Flacco will be good too.

That's OK bud, you're still in denial. Soon you too will know what it means to "fail forward fast"
