The Ravens are great at getting the right eVALUation of the entire draft class.

They may have loved Troy Smith last year, but did not take him until the 5th round.

If they do take Ryan at 8 I will trust they have done the homework.
Personally I am not sold on him based on the 4 or 5 times I saw him play in college vs the Terps and VT. In the ACC championship, not so great.

The Ravens, while being excellent at drafting future Pro Bowl defensive players, struggle to get it right on offense. In my opinion drafting Boller and starting him right away was a direct result of them drafting Chris Redmond and having him sit year after year, only to find out he wasn't the answer when he finally did get his shot. As far as Troy Smith being a 5th rounder, Tom Brady was a 6th. If you can play, who cares where you were drafted. The experts don't always get it right.

I take issue with the notion they have not drafted well on offense just because they have not coached well or produced, does not mean the talent is not there.

J.O. was a draft pick. Jamal, Heap, Grubbs, Brown, and most of the guys they took and even let walk got contracts 2 or 3 times from other teams. T Taylor got 3 or 4 more contracts. Darling got signed right away. Holmes got paid after the SB.

Boller would not be out of work one day if the Ravens cut him even though he was a bust as a franchise QB. musa Smith was a great pick until he snapped his leg in half.

Terry and Chester will turn out to be great picks if they can be effective starters in year 3 for 2nd round O linemen is good value.

Gaither was a steal, so was Williams in the 4th. Clayton may have been a stretch, but maybe not in a decent scheme.

You can't really blame the GM for bad coaching or bad luck with injuries. The names of high first round busts at QB and WR picked since Oz drafted Boller, Taylor and Clayton, around the NFL is about 20 deep of guys out of football for non injury reasons.

This season I predict Cam is going to get a lot of Raven players to the probowl. The SD offensive talent, player for player under him was not signifiganly better than the Ravens. Rivers was not a rookie, but he was a young unproven QB, but he used LT and Gates perfectly to always keep Defenses off balance.

Heap and Willis are going to put up some sick numbers in this attack even if Boller or street veteran has to take over for Smith. Both QBs can work the deep seem passes that will exploit the SS who will have to commit early to the box.
I have no idea how or why Billick did not do it more, but we will for the first time in a long time have an OC that exploits mismatches and effectivly substitutes his personel.

Audibles, motion, false cadences, waggles, boots, screens, draws, and best of all, goal line personel and power running on 3rd and short instead of Boller in the shotgun throwing to Musa off his back foot to who knows where.
Can you imagine what the Ravens goal line O could have done if they had put Nagta or someone in at TE instead of trying to get redzone tds in 3 wide formations and shotgun on 3rd and 1.
