Saints cut 'Beerman,' Whitehead

It's the end of the road for the 'Beerman.' And another longtime New Orleans Saints defender is on his way out as well.

Kick returner Michael Lewis and defensive lineman Willie Whitehead were released by the team Friday. The Saints also waived rookie free-agent tackle Peter Dyakowski from LSU.

'(Lewis and Whitehead) have meant a lot to this franchise and during their careers here have been exactly what you look for in an NFL player,' Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said. 'Michael is a New Orleans native and deservedly has a special place in the hearts of our fans. Read more
