DA realized there weren't really any teams interested that would be willing to pay him what he wants. My question now is how are the Browns going to get some draft picks early?

Phil Savage is playing the Derek Anderson free agency perfectly. There are three ways this can play out, and all three scenarios favor the Browns:
*Anderson ends up signing for one year. That gives the Browns another season to evaluate him and decide if he’s the long-term answer at QB1. Can he stop throwing into triple coverage? Can he complete a pass under 10 yards? If so, they can sign him long-term next year. Excellent points!
*Anderson signs with another team and the Browns receive a first- and a third-round pick to fix their aging and underperforming defense. And they move forward with Brady Quinn at QB1. The team has to trust that they made the right choice picking him in the first round of the draft and be confident moving forward with Quinn.
*Anderson doesn’t get a big offer from another team, so he resigns with Cleveland for three years. That gives the team two assets at quarterback, which can’t be bad.
All those are positives for the team, which is something Browns fans haven’t been able to say in a while.
Excellent points. OMG is running scared!

I think Savage is playing this perfectly. However, knowing the way things go around here the average Browns fan will have turned on Quinn by Halloween if he dares throw two INT's in a game or they actually lose two in a row.

To most Browns fans - either our quarterback is the best in the league or he sucks. There is no in-between. If you throw three picks in a game in a tornado in your first year starting you must immediately be sent packing.

Bye Bye DA. The Browns fans will miss you. Too bad Lerner & Savage are too cheap A$$ed to resign you to a long term contract. Now the Browns will have another excuse for missing the playoffs next season: BQ is the new starting QB.
Like your cheap Steelers owner who won't resign Fanaca? And the guy who is supposedly replacing him is also a free agent and hasn't been signed. All is not well in Steeler land. Worry about your own crappy team instead of posting your nonsense about the Browns.

PS Rumors now are that DA has been signed by the Browns for 3 years,$20 million. Happened after free agency opened. If that is true they probably already have a trade worked out with another team for draft picks this year.

<quoted text>.....And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Faneca's 31, meaning he's close to the end of his prime. If the Steelers pay him the money he wants $20 million, they'd be stuck paying for a guy whose skills aren't aren't worth the money he's getting paid. It's actually a smart move on the Steelers part. Keomeatu is ready to move into his spot and start. Unlike the Browns, STEELERS always have a plan.
Keomeatu is also a free agent and needs to e signed by the cheap a$$ Steelers.

Contracts are not guarenteed in the NFL - don't let the facts get in the way of your argument.

That's what just blows your mind. Never have I ever seen a QB- in his first year no less- do as well as DA and be scoffed at by a lot of the fans and media. All for what- potential. I hear that word so much it makes me sick. If every player performed as advertised, there would be 1,000 other players in the league right now. Tom Brady would be selling pizza and Rick Mirer (ND), would be in his 10th probowl.

Well, it appears that all the wailing, whining and posturing was for naught as Anderson stopped playing the fool and grabbed the offer before it was pulled off the table...I would have preferred the Browns acquiring some draft picks and shop for some defensive help....Savage though is good and now he can continue to bring in talent somewhere else such as the Green Bay acquisition...bet Brady is disappointed !
