Springs's Reserve Role Takes Some by Surprise

There are 1 comment on the Sep 11, 2007, The Washington Post story titled Springs's Reserve Role Takes Some by Surprise. In it, The Washington Post reports that:

“Certainly, I am sure he will start this year but we feel like we're real solid at corner and we've got three guys there who have started a bunch.”

Springs was the third defensive back in the season-opening victory, with Fred Smoot and Carlos Rogers playing in the base package, a move that surprised some veteran players. Read more

The Redskins mgt/coaching staff obviously have an axe to grind... For whatever reason, they are sitting their best cornerback... AND it is not in the best interest of the team. They need to get over it.

Smoot was torched over and over again... So what if they didn't complete a deep ball on him, he was lined up 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage... So the Dolphins saw the weak link and went at him 8, 10 yards at a time.

Smoot is good player (he played back up in Minnesota for pete's sake), Rodgers is good (at best)... But neither one of them plays even close to the level that Springs does.

Coach Williams better get a backbone and start playing his best players before he finds himself ranked 31st in the league again and left scratching his head (and reading the help wanted ads).
