Raiders Midseason: Ballers & Busters

You know, I swore at the beginning of the season that I wouldn't call for Russell's job this year, however I never imagined he would play this poorly. While I don't believe he is the only problem, I believe he is a major problem. If he doesn't show a large improvement in the second half I'll be hoping like crazy that Al will draft Colt McCoy. LB's have to play better and we need more depth at corner. Outside of Asomugha and Johnson our corners have been terrible.

I've seen Chris Johnson get beat a number of times this season. The only buster that I don't agree with is Kirk Morrison because once again he leads the team in tackles and yet they don't acknowledge it. I do think Morrison is better suited to play OLB and we need a Greg Biekert type in the middle.

well asking any corner othere than asomugha, champ baiiley, or darrell revis to cover anyone in single man coverage all game is retarded anyway, even with safety help. but when deion sanders said our corner combo was the best in the league, even better than the group in green bay, then i'll take them. but like i said if we have no depth at cornner or LB. i would like to see them address one of those positions in the second round of the draft. 2 guys stand out to me at ILB Sean Lee of Penn State is, in my opinion the best LB in the draft, but due to injury earlier this season he might fall. second is Brandon Spikes of Florida. and as much as i HATE the gators i would love to see him in the silver and black next year. and at OLB i like Roddrick Muckelroy from Texas. was regarded as one of the best LBs in the country last year and is still thought of as one of the best OLB prospects. but all this is assuming we adress the QB situation in the first round

I agree with your opinion about addressing the LB and CB in the draft. If the Raiders decide to go away from Russell, I am not sure if the Raiders are ready to draft a young QB again vs. getting a veteran in free agency.

OL and defnese should definatly be priorities this offseason. OL could've been addressed this last draft in round 1 rather than wasting a pick on Butterfingers Heyward-Bey.

I would like us to pick up a Young Vet on OL in the offseason....The draft is such a crap shoot. I don't have a problem picking up a QB in the draft...just pick a senior that can make quick decisions....so what if he can't throw 70 yards from his knees. I know Al won't be quick to make that move again picking a QB up in the draft....But that's part of Al's problem. He makes a bad choice and then thinks it can't be solved the same way because he made a mistake.....I am so disheartened by the Raiders this year....I expected us to be at the very least...competitive...and we haven't been in ANY game this year...yes we won a couple but...we had NO offense in any game this year....its pathetic. The best game we played this year was the first game against the Chargers...and that wasn't good enough to win.I refuse to get excited until we win back to back games.....and really three in a row is more of a cause for excitement...but back to back with offensive output would be a nice start.

well the reason i say draft a QB is b/c we will probably fire cable after this year. so bring in a rookie since you will be changing systems, and we have young receivers so if we bring in a good rookie we could have a good passing game for a long time.. also i'm not seeing any good QB's who will be available in free agency next year, and even if there were they probably won't want to sign w/ a team that is rebuilding. although i wouldn't mind trying to pick up culpepper again, even if we do draft somebody.

Culpepper is AWFUL!!!!! I agree with picking up a QB in the draft....and we also need a Vet that can play to teach the young QB...But Not Culpepper....he is terrible.

Makes sense. For some reason, I think both Cable and Russell will be around next year. If a QB is not needed in round 1, who do think the Raiders should get?

not necessarily as a playerf but i think his experience could go a long way in helping a young QB develop. and i think his stint in detroit has showed him that his role, no matter where he goes, is to be a mentor. another option that may be there is Chad Pennington. again more for his experience than his ability. i doubt he can be incredibly successful after this injury but he is a good vet for a QB to learn from.

If we win anymore games I'll be excited for a little while, but I'm like you...I won't be real excited until we build a winning streak. I really don't care who the players are anymore, I just want to win football games. I think Butterfingers Heyward-Bey has made a difference for the worse rather than the better. Tom Cable said the same thing about him that Lane Kiffin said about Darren McFadden instantly making us a better football team and I haven't seen it from either of them. Really the only players I want to hang onto are Gallery, Henderson, Kelly, Howard, Morrison, Lechler, Asomugha, Z Miller, Schilens, Seymour, Ellis, Branch, Mitchell and Bush. I'm just really not sold on any of the rest of our players. I think Bush's struggles have been opposing defenses stacking the box because our passing game won't open up as long as Z Miller is the only threat to catch the football and Fargas has been getting the job done with experience because he knows what it takes. I won't get excited or mad over any draft pick or new aquistion until I see how he affects our team. I really like the way Matt Shaughnessy has been developing.
