Green Bay Packers Need Cullen Jenkins, Chris Canty In 2013

There are 11 comments on the Rant Sports story from Feb 25, 2013, titled Green Bay Packers Need Cullen Jenkins, Chris Canty In 2013. In it, Rant Sports reports that:

Normally, Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson avoids free agency. Will that trend continue in 2013? After Jerel Worthy suffered an ACL tear toward the end of the 2012-13 NFL season, Thompson may have no other choice but to bring in some veteran depth and role players.

I wouldnt mind that either, but, if there is any chance of signing Jennings back, you can kiss that goodbye if GB signed both Canty and Jenkins.
Im against signing Jennings if hes looking for a Jackson type deal ( 11M per) or more ( obviously)
IF Jennings was only being offered 8-9M ( even though he hasnt played a full season in 3 years and is 30 now) and can be had for basically what he got paid last year,id be for it, and release Finley ( and front load the deal a bit).
I think GB is fine at WR and TT is great at finding WR in the draft,so IMO signing Jennings isnt that important as we have bigger needs then WR but if it presents itself and Rodgers enjoys throwing to him ect,well......

Time for my arm chair GM-ing

Cut finley
Keep hawk
Let Jennings go FA
Bring in Canty or Jenkins (or both if we got the $)

rd1 TE Tyler Eifert -ND or WR Keenan Allen- Cali
rd2 C Barrett Jones Alabama or DT Margus Hunt, I like both maybe we can move up and get both?
rd3 TE or WR which ever didn’t happen in rd 1

rd4 ? whatever

Still think Ted will go best player available in the first round, regardless of position. The Packers can't say that they can't use new blood at any position other than maybe punter.

Starting to look like my choice, Barrett Jones, is going to drop into the second round. It's a really even draft talentwise (no big dropoffs as the draft progresses) so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Ted trade back and pick up an extra pick or two, and get Jones that way.

Cullen Jenkins might be an interesting pickup. More help on the DL definitely won't hurt, and he should have a few years left in him. For the right price, I'd do it.

By the way, I finally registered with Topix. Couldn't use "answerman" as my handle since it was already registered, so appended the number of, to paraphrase Vince's words, "the finest player Lombardi ever coached". And of course my profile pic is my favorite pic of any player of all time. Too bad he wasn't better as a coach.

Good call on TT going BPA, and with all the talent in the later part of the 1st rd it is anyone’s guess who the Packers will choose. It will probably be somebody that has slid in the draft that was not expected to be there.

I think this draft will be real fun,'maybe' we can guess the first 8 off the board but after that the first round will be wide open. I think there will be a lot of surprise picks and some guys who thought to be top 15 players picked after the 25th.

It will be interesting to see if TT trades back out of the first or maybe even up with his 2nd. I think he will stay at 26 though, there it really seems like he will get great value at that spot.
I bet teams in the top 15 want to trade back.

The Packers are talking to Even D-S and his agent,SO, its either hes being cut, offered a restricted,or ( as many commented on) EDS is being offered a multi year deal,SO,IF EDS signs, then we can pretty much take Barrett Jones off the board.IF they can sign Cullen Jennings or Chris Canty, they can pretty much take a 1st round pick off of the DE position ( can go later for a DE and develop him) OR can play depth until he develops into starter

They have a nice article about Bryan Bulaga being tried out at LT for this next year and they chat about other options and chat about EDS,Barclay,Sherrod ect.Its a bit interesting.( Mil. Journal Sentinel)

I just read that article too. Sounds like they really like EDS at center right now. That doesn't mean they shouldn't go after Barret Jones though, they say he can play multiple positions on the line so at least he can provide immediate depth until he develops into a starter role.

Do we have any good backups at Center or Gaurd? I don't think we do.

So it looks like the Pack need DL (my biggest concern) OL, WR, TE, RB, and LB. Answerman is right all positions can use an upgrade but the ones above seem to be bigger needs to me.

Im still of the opinion that you build a team from the inside out..( both starting lines,Dlines and Olines and they make the LB,Safeties and corners ( def obviously) and they make the RB,TE WR and qb better ( o line obviously)
That said,IF Bulaga could play LT that would really help but coming back from a hip,im not sure.Sherrod would be my preference, but, he may never play another down and if he does ( God Willing) who knows if he will be the same.I do wonder if vanRoten can play Center, sounds like hes doing his thing in the offseasona nd we may have something in Barclay at RT and heres to hoping some playing time develops his pass blocking skills, hes good with run blocking.Bulaga is opposite, not a great run blocker but pass blocking hes much better and obviously,a pass blocker is what we need over at LT, so i just may work out right
