Thompson: 'We could have been better'

Dec 31, 2008 Full story: WisInfo 50

Ted Thompson was careful not to say the 6-10 Green Bay Packers of 2008 were nearly as good as their 13-3 team from 2007.

AR has a very accurate arm, throws with velocity, and he had a chance to watch the game from a master at work. The only question about AR is durability. With the receiver corps the Pack have assembled, Rogers will put up some very big numbers. I think the management of the game to produce wins will grow for him just as it did for Brett. I really believe this team will bounce back in 2009 and a solid draft will definitely help us.
Why should we question his durability? He started all 16 games last year while taking some nasty hits. He has nothing to prove with durability in my eyes. The guy is a competitor and I know once he misses a start the AR questions will fly off the shelves because of Brett and his durability.

The durability thing was the rap AR got prior to last season. He actually played through some injuries last season and we all know he played pretty damn good. Unlike most teams, our QB position is well stocked with understanding young talent and I believe the rooks from last season will definitely play better. AR is the real deal as I believe GB is set at this key position for many years. We are also set pretty nice at WR and RB isn't bad either. Only Driver was here before TT, so he has done a number of things right and deserves credit for that. In four years the only guy that it appears he might have missed on in the draft was Harrell. I'll take that record any day. It appears to me that when you go the draft route to build a team, it means you are careful with the money and have cash available to resign the key players who were drafted when their contracts are up. This year we got Jennings, Collins, College, and a few more who will be FA in 2010. We have the dough to resign nearly all key guys.

as the Bears CHOKED the last game and out of the playoffs after Minn had lost? You folks in Chicago need some respectability as well. Im not worried about 8-8, we are a better team then that.
You folks in the wind city have your own worries, like stating the season 0-1 after you lose to the Packers on Sunday night.
you are 6-10 not 8-8

With the exception of 2007 TT has averaged 6-10. Ted boldly stated that the Packers COULD HAVE BEEN better than 6-10. Please note that he didn't say that the Packers SHOULD HAVE BEEN better than 6-10 last year, nor did he PREDICT that the Packers WOULD BE better than 6-10 this year. Ted is much too cautious to go out on that limb. Besides, I doubt he is as delusional as most of his fans.
