NFC championship game: What if ...?

There are 88 comments on the TwinCities.com story from Sep 8, 2010, titled NFC championship game: What if ...?. In it, TwinCities.com reports that:

What if the Minnesota Vikings had not put 12 men in the huddle late in the NFC championship game? What if there had been no mental meltdown, no penalty, and they just had done the expected and run the ball on third and long from the Saints' 33-yard line with 19 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of a 28-28 game? What if there had been no Brett ...

Brian,

What if the NFL had put some competent, ethical, sober officials on the field to officiate the game?? What if the thugs who beat the hell out of Kurt Warner and Favre had been SUSPENDED from the rest of the playoffs and Super Bowl?? Yes,
the Vikes had some turnovers, but still should have won the game, and it never should have come down to that 12 man penalty and late INT. I wonder if the refs who gave the last game to the aints will be the same crew this Thursday night.....

WHAT IF?

The Vikings go and play their hearts out, do everything in their power to win?
What if they do the near impossible and win the Super Bowl?
What if the excitement is enough to get their dream stadium built?
What if they don't?

Well they would be just like the other 31 teams that came up short. But I will still enjoy watching them.

What if we realize after a short period of disappointment that it is in fact a just a game?

A interesting stat. from that game last season-when the Saints blitzed the Vikes middle and right side they virtually had no luck, Favre managed to attain a 100 plus passer rating and put up good numbers; however when they blitzed the Vikes left side Favre's passer rating dropped below 40 and his other numbers were non-existent. So Chilly, make sure on passing downs that left side is beefed up with a fullback or tight end.

I think vikings are a better team than the saints...however the difference in the game was the coaching. We were just outcoached. So what if the saints blitzed us like crazy? Isn't that the coach's job to counter it? So what if they're taking cheap shots..isn't that the coaches job to counter that too? Maybe in the form of returning a favor? I think the saints coaching staff just did a better job of preparing them. Vikings are not good because chilly's a geniuse with a master plan. Vikings are good because we just have too many talented players that we can't help but be good. My grandma can coach the vikings and make it to the NFC championship game last season. Now just imagine if someone like Tony Dungy was actually coaching the vikings?.....Put all that good talent to use properly for once...

What if, what if, what if........? The outcome would have been the same because either Favre would still have thrown a desparation pass and been intercepted or Peterson would have fumbled.

What if you didn't write a what-if article only to abandon the format later in the piece?
Favre has a great season, Vikes go 10-6, lose in first round.
Packers for the win.

Someday we will find out that one of the original owners of the Vikings made a deal with the devil to get this team or had sex with a goat. As a result, the team would never win a superbowl and that its fans would have to endure 1 crushing and agonizing loss after another for eternity. I would truly exchange 1 superbowl for 10 consecutive 2 win seasons.

What if Aaron Rodgers, wins a Super Bowl before the Vikings do? Just think what these boards will look like.
