So a company that pays 8-9 dollars an hour will kill a community? I seriously doubt it.

Yes, it will. Look at the effects Wal-Mart has in any community.:)

The Villages will one day annex the entire Lake County area all it ever will be good for is old people! After they annex Lake County build a wall around it so the old people can't get out and clog up other parts. Another good thing about it getting cold in North Florida keeps their limits down. I was in Publix it took an elderly women 10 minutes to write a check five people in line behind me walked away. They lost five customers over that one old lady! Mind you the wall doesn't have to be that high.

Watch out for the liqudation company that takes over CC. They are famous for marking prices way up and then making special "half off" sales.

Do your homework BEFORE you go shopping or you will get ripped off worse than if you walked into Best Buy.

I'm sure the line moves much faster when you use your government food card, rather than a check, huh?

The area seems to attract losers... Bed Bath and Beyond, Circuit City, Hillary Clinton, South Lake High School, South Lake teachers, South Lake teen hoodlums, 8 percent unemployment rate... the list goes on and on.

An area going down.

Will the last person to leave please turn off the lights.

Gee, Chamber of Commerce, you're upset by the job losses ?

WHAT DID YOU DO TO STOP THEM ??

What have you done to monitor the health of the businesses in the county ? Or do you think business closings just HAPPEN ??

Circuit City died because they had a horrible business plan. They refused to change and improve when competition (Best Buy) came on the scene. I walked into Circuit City several times to shop for big ticket items (HDTV, home theater, dSLR cameras, etc...). Not ONCE did I feel like anyone was there to help me. Instead I'd see a group of employees gathered together playing grab-@$$. When I asked for help once I was told someone would be right over....15 mins later NOTHING. And this wasn't just one location. I tried several locations. Of course when I walk into Best Buy and show any amount of interest someone walks by and asks if I need help with anything. Management at Circuit City was horrible. I just hope those people make a career change and don't bring down another company. (Of course some companies hold their employees accountable for BUSINESS so it shouldn't be a problem.)

Last year, I went to their Colonial store, fully intending to walk out with a desktop computer. I couldn't find anyone to sell me a computer (well, technically I found someone, but she was too busy talking with her friends to help me), so I walked out empty handed.

When you can't bother selling a $1000+ product to someone with cash in his hand, bankruptcy is probably an inevitability.

It's unfortunate that a national retailer has disappeared, but I think this situation was preventable.

You think it's bad there, you should see Publix in Boca Raton. Get in between old people and a lady giving away free food samples and you take your life in your hands.

It depends if she was in the express cashier line. If she was a regualr line then that old lady has every right to write her check. If she was in the express lane, like I see so many times, then she is out of line for writing one. Every express line, both Walmart AND Publix, tells customer to not write checks in the express line but yet, you'll have these people, both the elderly and others, write them. These people needs to keep up with today's technology and get a debit card. Debit card works the same way as writing a check and comes out the same account. Checks are just paper trails. There's no need for them in grocery payments for goodnees sake.
