Why didn't they just outbid Tennessee for Lane Kiffin? He at least coached a few weeks in the NFL. This Morris is an untested, unproven, unqualified nobody. Did they get scared Denver would actually hire him? They were just trying to abide by the Rooney Rule. Gruden had to go. He could not make it happen again. Joel Glazer's shot at him was, "We are looking to build a team for the long haul to compete every year." Gruden was scrambling and trying to keep his job. He fell way short, and I believe the players made sure he did. But, this hiring of Morris is a joke. I guess with super lib B.O. going in Tuesday, they thought, "Let's give our underachieving players what they want. It will end in tears.
I dont think it was a question of money, Kiffin went to T to coach with his son. I beleive.

Stupid:

This is the worst HC hire since the Raiders hiring of Lane Kiffin.
Speaking of stupid, yea you!

Kiffin was an awful hire in Oakland. The kid had very little experience and no business getting a NFL HC gig, period. Just a few years ago he was scrubbing jocks in Jacksonville. Al Davis is a moron and handled Kiffin's departure very poorly though. He should have never been hired as the HC in the first place.

The Morris hire Tampa is an awful hire also. The guy has an even weaker resume. He may have been a so called "rising" star in the league but he does not have the goods to be a HC yet. He ran a defense at Kansas St for one year now he's going to run the Bucs. That is "stupid"!!!
I'm not in favor of hiring retreads but this is insane. There are far more qualified and deserving coaches out there who have earned a shot. Obviously this was a cheap hire and that was probably a major factor. The Bucs will be back in the coaching market in a year or two. Hopefully they will have the needed warchest then to land a real HC.

The Buck-In-Ears will find themselves as the bottom feeders of the NFC-South division for a few years.

As the author of this story (and in defense of my profession), I had to ask: How did the Tampa media chase Jon Gruden out of town? We didn't lose the last four games of the season; we just wrote about them.

Thank you all for reading and writing.

PS: To the poster who suggested the Glazers are notoriously cheap, that is an ill-informed statement. I have a two-word retort to that assertion: Hugh Culverhouse.

Our next President fits your description and like the new coach in Tampa both will succeed.
