Unfortunately, Lovie's here to stay for a while. Politically correct not to fire him, especially in Chicago. He could repeat his record of last year, and then "improve" to .500 in 2009, and then be padded on the back. What's ashame is that they have excellent personnel on defense, but playing in an old washed-up system that Lovie and staff won't move on from.

Sounds like the always so cool, laid back, Lovie is beginning to panic!!! As he should after last years performance by the defense whice we all thought was caused by injuries still looks the same. I must admit I am worried myself!

good article.

when do we get fighting for defensive coordinator and head coach

Love the line letter blitzing linebackers through with no blocks this year too.

The Bears have invented the "7-11" defense: It looks like their playing 7 vs. 11 on offense.

Nothing like waiting until less than 2 weeks before the season opener to have open competition for a position when it should have been opened, what, two-three-four-five or six months ago??? At the very least, that Safety position (not to mention a bunch of others) should have been open for competition at the beginning of training camp. Yeah, this instills quite a bit of confidence in this coaching staff, doesn't it???

Lovie just has no clue!! He is just now going to make people have to fight for their positions? This man gets outcoached all the time. The defense ahs been pathetic and he still will not let them tackle in practice. No wonder the team is so pathetic. Babich is the worst DC in foofball. It is time for a complete overhaul of this team. Maybe someone will buy this team who really wants to win.

Please, no more excuses for poor tackling. This is the same as last year. If these guys still have not learned how to strike with their shoulder and wrap up with their arms, either the coaches are telling them to try for the strip, or the players don't have the discipline to play team defense. Either way the responsibility rests with the front office: get better coaches or draft/trade for better players. The time spent with reporters making excuses would be better spent with a tackling dummy--or better still, watching some film of Doug Planck.

Classic Loviespeak! "He has played well at times. He has played like the rest of our defense has at other times." Why can't he just say he sucked (or at least he played bad). If saying "he played like the rest of the defense" is his way of saying he played bad, then I think as a head coach, he should be fired. If your whole unit is terrible 2 years from Super Bowl, you need to go. Take the whole coaching staff, and Jerry Angelo with you. Maybe we can get new ownership while we're at it. How do we keep ending up with these clowns. For every injury-plagued former Pro-Bowler we have (ie Mike Brown, Tommie Harris) we have ten "never should have been given jersey" hacks (ie Benson, Haynes, Grossman, Orton (he sucks too!), Hutchinson, Krenzel, Quinn, Tait, Metcalf, Mohammed, Archuleta, I could be here all day. Man, I am pretty frustrated. I pay $250/yr to watch this garbage. I want a refund from JA and company.

" Reserve linebacker Rod Wilson was placed on waive/injured reserve after breaking his right arm. He sustained the injury in the third quarter, when his arms brushed the leg of 49ers running back Thomas Clayton."
How do you break an arm by "brushing" a leg?

Yeah we really need to overhaul the coaching staff. Seems the only competent one is Toub....But is that just because of Hester?

Yeah... I really get this "we don't tackle in practice" thing. That's very weird. It's good that he wants to protect his team but there has to be a limit. The NFL doesn't play 2 hand touch or flag football. Could be the root of the tackling problems. hmmmmmmm.....
