I like Rocky B., but he seems to have a badge on him that says "oh no, this one doesn't play." What's the rap on Rocky?

I don't know that there's a rap on him so much as the fact that the Colts hopes for Cato June & Gary Brackett were much higher - leaving Boiman to fill in. That apparently worked in Rocky's favor as the Colts decided to let June seek employment elsewhere. And might I say that I don't believe the Colts will miss June all that much.

We could see Boiman teamed with Morris on a regular basis. I recall Boiman being around the ball quite a lot during the playoffs when he was in the game. So he has a nose for the ol' pigskin.

Could it be that Polian knows what he's doing?

Maybe it's not so much that Polian knows what he's doing as opposed to...the Colts didn't have the money to re-sign June.

Now a shortfall of cap space...that is something that Polian is mostly responsible for (Dungy and Irsay have a little bit to do with it, but not like Polian does). With only 3 million bucks headed into the draft the belt is about to get as tight as it can be.

And let's not forget...Polian was the man responsible for Scott Norwood!

If only Polian could drop by Conseco and help the Pacers out. Cause donny, larry, ricky c. don't have clue!

Jeremy: The Scott Norwood line is a really cheap shot. The most valuable "player" in the Colts franchise is without question Bill Polian. The man knows his football like few others and we are very fortunate to have him. That's why when Edegerin James was not re-signed I did not lose confidence in the running game. Why you ask? Remember all the ruckus when Polian let Marshall Faulk go elsewhere? What happened next was Mr. James, who Poliann drafted when all the world said he should draft Ricky ("Where is my Bong Now") Williams. The same thing happened with Manning and Ryan Leaf. Polian has not been perfect, no NFL general manager has been, is, or ever will be, but I wouldn't trade him for anyone else and neither should you!!

Well I agree Polian has done a great job but you said no NFL general manager was or has been better but hated New England has 3 rings and we have 1 and NE should challenge again next year - so it'b be better to say Bill is one of the best not the best.

Hi Colts: Please point out to me where in my previous posting I said that "no NFL general manager was or has been better" than Polian. Thanks!

Only $3 mill under the cap? Explain please because the Colts saved $8.2 just by restructuring Manning's contract. You can't really count Freeney's franchise tag because the Colts will either sign DF to a long term contract that'll be cap friendly before or just after the draft. I think after as the teams sign players and with DEs like Freeney at a premium, his agent would be very smart to wait to see how the draft and FA market goes.

Blame Polian all you want, but look at the results of the last 5 years. Where have the Colts ended up? BP has a knack for finding quality players. Sure it took a while for things to pay off...it always does. Rarely do teams go with a 1st year player & reach the Big Dance. And anyone who says, "Look at the Steelers and Big Ben!" from two years ago...I'd answer look at their collapse last year.

Things will be fine. Polian has a track record approached and/or matched by very few. He simply knows what he's doing. So don't get your panties in a bunch, Jeremy.

$3 mill under the cap...baloney!

Oh, two more things, Jeremy: as I recall, Scott Norwood doesn't play for the Colts.

And do you honestly believe that June was that big a part of the playoff defense's success? There were 10 other guys on the field.

Walter,
Your posts show that you have a good understanding of Mr. Polian and how he works. He has now had winners with 3 different teams.

I wouldn't want to assume you were being sarcastic - and if you were sincere and that comment offended you, please accept my apologies.

IMHO, it's that some have this distorted view of the way the game is played. They're quick to heap praise on Manning when he throws 5 TDs, 0 INTs, 378 yards, and a 65% completion rate. They forget that Peyton only throws the ball or hands it off; there are receivers, blockers, and runners who handle the ball once out #18's hands.

They're also superquick to place the blame squarely on Manning when there are 3 INTs, his completion percentage is less than 45% and the run game isn't over 100 yards.

They also criticize Freeney for not having 3 or 4 sacks a game. Forgetting that he's an undersized DE who often gets double and triple teamed by 350 lb offensive linemen, TEs bearing down on him at full bore and blocking backs.

As I mentioned, Polian is at the top of the game when it comes to evaluating and picking players. Every GM or director of player personnel has a hiccup or three. They can't possibly be right 100% of the time. Given the choice of who's out there, would we rather have Polian or maybe the present Bills DPP or that of the Browns, Lions, Cardinals, Vikings, and some other lower tiered (based on records) teams? I don't mean to disrespect or cast aspersions on other teams. They've drafted capable players - but for one reason or another haven't been able to rise above mediocrity. Case in point: the Detroit Lions. The owner better soon realize that his problems are going to continue as long as Matt Millen is on the payroll.

Anyway, based on the Colts rise among the NFL ranks during Polian's tenure, I'd have to say I've been 95% happy with what he has done.

Walter,
You are right on the money with your assesments. I was living in Buffalo when BP was shown the door. There was outrage and within 2 years the Bills fell off the charts. When I heard that the Colts got him I knew we would be a serious contender.
I'm still enjoying this year's Super Bowl.
At least, unlike many teams, the Colts fans have another year to look forward to.

- I guess time cures all. Now the Eagles can wonder, at least for a year.
