I hope you don't try to time the market with your predictions. Otherwise, you will be in the poor house.

"And, while more implausible events have transpired in recent times at the Super Bowl-who can forget the two-touchdown underdog New York Giants only two years ago stunning the 18-0 New Orleans Saints?-it's doubtful such a freak of nature will unfold today."
Douggie, the only 'freak of nature' is you and your ability to maintain a job as a sports columnist.

Dougie Boy,

Remember the Jets (1969). Remember the Giants 2 years ago. Stay with what you know - your boozing friends, yammering about the good old days in LB, and defending Jessica Hardy. Go Saints!

Doug, In your next column check in with Jimmy V from Vegas for the take($) from the many gamblers who got copmpletely buried betting a sure thing, MVP Peyton Manning and the Colts, as well as the majority who expected a shootout and mistakenly bet the total points of OVER 57. Whoops. Vegas absolutely cleaned up on this game as evidenced by the line moves in favor of the Colts, although the sportsbooks might have taken a little pain paying out a few 20-1 futures bets on New Orleans to win it all from the beginning of the season. It should be a big week at Gamblers Anonymous.

Blah blah blah.

As usual, lots of talk about Peyton, but when it came time to deliver he came up a day late and a dollar short. The Saints pressured him, not with exotic blitzes but by being opportunistic, changing up defensive packages constantly and covering in the backfield. Once the saints defense found a rhythm, the colts offense never could.

Drew Brees and his ridiculous accuracy and depth at receiver ground down the colts defense, not with sexy Favre- or Grossman-esque bombs, but with accurate screens, chewing time off the clock and putting points on the board five yards at a time.

You can talk all you want about how Peyton Manning is redefining the position of quarterback. Sean Payton and Gregg Williams brought the Lombardi home to new orleans the old fashioned way- by being aggressive and shrewd. And now Drew has as many rings as Peyton does- but with a much better playoff record to show for it.
